Pumpkin Seeds

As a young lad, I was introduced to salted pumpkin seeds by my cousin Ariel (sp). She would bring them out to the cottage and share them with me.

Now, I’m not talking about pepitas, a Mexican variety of roasted pumpkin seeds, lightly salted and delicious too. My friend B___ introduced me to those back in the ‘70s and they were great, but I have no idea where you can find them these days.

No, I am talking about the kind of thick, white-crusted with salt, pumpkin seeds. When she brought them out they came in a small box (smaller than, say, a box of “Good and Plenty’s.” The box was red and had a silhouette of an Indian on the front (I can’t remember yesterday, but I can still remember this – go figure).

Since, as you probably know by now, I like salt more than sugar, these were heaven sent.

I recently saw some (in a tray, not in the red Indian box) and bought them. I am enjoying the hell out of them (it takes me back!)

Ariel, wherever you are, thanks!

  1. Well, the salt numbs your mouth and then makes your stomach sick. Other than that, they are great!

  2. Anybody know where you can get those pepitas? I'd like to taste them again, too...
