It was the hottest day so far here in southeast Michigan on Thursday (101 degrees F. at 5:00 PM). We broke two records, both the low temperature this morning and the high temperature this evening.
I went home at lunchtime and made myself a tomato sandwich. I cut two thick slices of the "Rustic Italian" bread and toasted them. Then I cut two thick slices of tomato. I slathered the toast with mayonnaise, added the tomatoes and then hit them with salt and pepper.
I was right about the mediocre tomato (if they don't smell like a tomato, they don't taste like a tomato) and was generally unimpressed with my lunch.
It was so hot here when I went home after work it took your breath away. My air conditioner was running constantly but it was still almost 80 degrees in the house.
I got my second Father's day present from Melissa (the first was a quart jar of moonshine that I didn't get because I didn't make it out to the cottage when they were here - so it went back to North Carolina to be picked up later). I was bitching about losing my double album of John Stewart's Phoenix concert, so she went online (as we talked) and ordered me a new CD. Thanks, babe!
But, I had my six ears of corn soaking in the stock pot since yesterday and a rib steak thawed out so I knew I had to grille my dinner.
I waited until sunset (not that it was that much cooler) and then fired up the lump charcoal in the chimney. I roasted the corn and then grilled the steak.
I ate dinner (it was excellent) watching TV, and then went to bed early.
