I got up later than usual on Sunday morning. It was gray and cold looking outside as it was most of Saturday (although, the sun came out briefly around 7:00 PM on Saturday, now that I think about it). I remember having bad dreams through most of the night, though I don’t know why...
I took care of my infusions and all my tests, but couldn’t take my morning meds until I refilled the pill holder. I put on a pot of coffee and drank two cups composing and typing the Blog entry. I finally started sorting out next week’s meds just before 10:00 AM.
I am still slowly cutting back on the morphine (from 90 MG (one 60 caplet and one 30 tablet) twice a day down to 60 MG and 60 MG, then to 60 MG in the morning and 30 MG at night, to this week: just 30 MG twice a day). But I have a lot of 60 MG caplets left, along with my 30 MG tablets.
Now, a long time before all this spinal crap, I had been taking 1000 MG of Metformin twice a day for something or other. My blood work was so good in regards to that something or other, my doctor cut it back to 500 MG twice a day and gave me a new prescription. I asked her what to do with the remaining 1000 MG tablets (I had just refilled them) and she said to cut them in half. So, I did that, with a sharp knife and my wood cutting board. But, the results were so-so. A lot of times, one or both halves went flying and I’d have to find them on the counter or (worse yet) on the floor.
So this time, I had bought a small, rather inexpensive pill cutter from CVS that uses a razor blade and keeps the pills inside it. It’s a little more difficult to line the caplets up than, say, a pill but it does work like a charm and I would highly recommend it for anyone who needs to cut their pills. [End of commercial]
So, I refilled my pill container for the week and cut the remaining 60 MG morphine caplets in half. Then I scrambled some eggs, ate my brunch and took my morning pills.
I stripped the bed and started the three loads of the weekend wash. While that was going on, I cut a new non-tapered white candle I had in the drawer in half to get two 4 1/2 inches long candles. After some difficulty getting the wax melted enough to ignite the wicks, I dripped wax into the Orion candle holders (this after I spent a lot of time carefully digging out the old wax yesterday) and stuck them in each holder. Why the wax? The old holders are made for one-inch candles and mine are the now-standard 3/4 inch ones. I’ll have to go to a candle shop and see if they still make and sell the fatter, shorter candles, I suppose.
I moved the humidifier (knowing I won’t need it all that much longer anyway) to another corner of my bedroom to make room for the air purifier. I had it in the kitchen (the most central part of the house) but it couldn’t stay there forever. So, since I spend the most time in the bedroom, I put it in there. I will move it out to the kitchen whenever I fry anything and possibly downstairs to address the kitty litter odor once a week or something.
I took some pictures of my work and posted them (although I was aghast to see the dust on the bottom shelf of the TV stand that showed up in the one photo – I really need to hire a crew to do Spring Cleaning or something).
My work clothes were clean and dried by then, so I got cleaned up and started housecleaning. I remade the bed and started getting up the cat hair and dust in all the rooms. I pulled the rubber ring off the bottom of one of the stainless steel cat water dishes and stuck it in the dishwasher (I try and remember to do one anytime I run the dishwasher so I can sanitize it). Then I turned the dishwasher on for this week’s load.
I washed the downstairs bathroom floor and the kitchen, confining me to the bedroom, office, hall, main bath and the living room. I did what I could there (washing glass tops, dusting tall things, etc. I finished about 5:10 PM (I was shooting for 5:00, but kept getting text messages, lol!)
Then I put in Disc 1 of a documentary Jake and Carla had sent me called No Direction Home – Bob Dylan (a Martin Scorsese picture). I was immediately mesmerized by it. His life growing up in a small town in the 50’s mimicked my own! And the songs! I remember all those songs! And the folk singers! I knew almost everyone they mentioned! Hell, I used to play and sing Woody Guthrie songs, especially "Hard Traveling"!
When Disc 1 finished (after two hours) I took a break from the movie and my own nostalgia to make a quick dinner. I had thought to make a real dinner this morning, but now I didn’t want to take the time. I originally planned to just watch the first disc tonight, but I was hooked. So, I microwaved another Boston Market entrée “Beef Steak & Noodles.” When it finished cooking, I ate it watching another Holmes on Homes show, not wanting to watch the movie and eat at the same time. BTW, the entrée was delicious! I took my evening meds and put in Disc 2.
I was still awake when it ended at 10:10 PM! Thanks, guys. You were right, it was a great movie! I took out the disc, put it away and went to bed.
Did you or do you notice any difference when you cut back on your pain medication? Just curious.
ReplyDeleteYes, of course. The first couple of days, my normal pain level goes up a notch or two. But, then it either goes down or I get used to it. It's not comfortable, just something I gotta do.
ReplyDeleteWait. I'm confused. Are you talking about Dylan Thomas?
ReplyDelete@ Jake: LMAO! Good one!
