It was another sunny, windy, chilly day early April day here on Thursday. Speaking of "early," I left early to get the blood work done at the little clinic on Farmington Road I always go to. It’s the St. Mary Mercy Hospital Lab (St. Mary Mercy Hospital (my nearby go-to hospital) is on Levan in Livonia).
There were two people ahead of me (a rare occurrence as it opens at 7:00 AM), so I knew I might be a little late for work. Aha, I thought! I’ll text Michelle and let her know, so if my boss gets there before me, she can tell him. I sent the text (you gotta love technology).
I gave the nurse both prescriptions, my driver’s license and health insurance card. Then I gave her my blood and also a urine sample (another rare occurrence). I got to work 10 minutes late. My boss was not there (he was still sick and not coming in, according to his email). But, Michelle wasn’t there yet, either! Her daughter’s car didn’t start, so she had to drive her to work in Lake Orion, first. But, she did call the Help Desk and let Vicky know both of us would be late, so my idea worked, sort of.
As I said, my boss wasn’t there, so I felt more at ease. I don’t want to be exposed to any more germs than I have to until this white blood cell count improves.
Since I had to leave for work early in the morning, I didn’t make any lunch plans, other than to bring along a book I’m reading. So, at lunch, I ran up to Jimmy John’s and got a turkey sandwich. I took it back to work to eat and read through lunchtime.
I was a little disappointed in the sandwich (formerly a favorite of mine). Instead of the sprouts that used to come on it, they had substituted shredded lettuce. Then I remembered a news story a while back that some people had gotten sick from the sprouts, so I guess Jimmy John’s took the easiest, safest way out.
But, I liked the sprouts! They reminded me of the ones I used to grow on Palms Road, and that was a good memory (as well as good tasting, lol).
After lunch, Vicky asked how good the pictures were from my camera, so I had to confess I hadn’t gotten that far in the instruction book. She said, “It’s probably pretty easy.” So, she showed me how to do it (that’s why she runs the Help Desk, after all) and I took my first picture with it. I emailed it home so I could triumphantly post it.
It seemed like a long afternoon as my brace was really hurting my back. As a result, I was grateful when it finally ended.
When I got home, I found they still hadn’t been here to cut the grass, :( but there was a package from my daughter Amy. Inside were some cooking magazines and a card thanking me for getting the high chair. :) Sidebar to Amy: You’re more than welcome.
I had emailed my nephew, Rick, asking him if the Texas tornadoes had affected him. He emailed back that they were okay, that most of the damage was up near Dallas, where his cousin Jeff (Carl’s son) lives. So, I emailed Carl to see if he’d heard from Jeff and he wrote back no, not really, therefore... he's okay.
Rick had attached a photo he took of a stove he saw in a Spaghetti Warehouse (whatever that is) that reminded him of the original stove out at the cottage (long gone now). So, with his permission, I posted that along with my coffee cup camera shot.
I had a three day weekend ahead of me and I was tired and sore, so I took a pain pill and the rest of the night off.
I thought I’d like a drink of anything but water or apple juice (my two mainstays since I’ve been laid up). So, I opened the half gallon of buttermilk I bought at Kroger’s, added in some pepper (what can I say, that’s how I like it) and drank a big swig. WTF? That’s not buttermilk! I looked at the label and discovered I’d bought 1% lowfat milk instead! Since I only use whole milk, it was like drinking peppered, watered-down milk. Bleech!
I was going to dump it, but decided to use it and make the blue box of mac & cheese for my supper instead. I gotta tell ya, that was the WORST mac & cheese I ever ate! I ate about 1/3 of the pasta (just enough to take my pills), then I dumped the rest of it and the 1% milk in disgust.
I watched some of the evening news and some of a DYI program and then dozed off. When I woke back up, I watched the last period of the Redwings game (we lost, dammit) and then went to bed for real.
