Another disappointing day

It was overcast, but not raining when I woke up on Tuesday. But, the weatherman said it was going to get sunny and warm!

Well, it wasn’t sunny when I went to lunch. It was overcast and drizzling. I went to Lowe’s and got the drywall anchors and screws I needed. Then I headed to Joann Fabrics, down the street.

The store was vacant!!! What the hell happened? Did Joann Fabrics go out of business or did just this store close? Discouraged, I drove back to work.

I did search on the web for the nearest Joann Fabric store and found there is one in Canton and another nearby in Dearborn Heights. Both are about 14 miles from the house. So, “my” Joann Fabrics joined World Market and Best Buy as stores I used to frequent in that area that have disappeared...

It never did get sunny here. When I got home after work, the trash and the cardboard was gone and the guys were cutting the grass in the back. And, it was a good thing they were. Remember that branch that fell down? Well, they were just cutting around it!

So, I went out back with my brace and walker (playing the pity card for all it's worth) and told them I didn’t mind paying extra, but would they please throw the branch over the fence? They said, oh, sure (like it never occurred to them) and they did.

But, one end hung up on my fence. So, after they left, I went out again and shoved it all the way over (hey, it’s his damn cottonwood tree that it fell out of!)

Back inside, I had to wash the bedspread, again! A cat had barfed on it, again! Grrr...

I went back outside and filled in the four holes I had put in the siding with some cream-colored silicon caulk.

Back inside, I called B___ and asked him about photo sizes, enlarging and creating sepia tones, etc. This was for the Orion cottage picture project. He also told me his boat went in the water today (the earliest launch ever!)

I took out the filter from the air purifier and vacuumed the charcoal filter (you’re supposed to do this once a month and it’s been a month). I was surprised about the amount of dust on it and doubly surprised that there was no cat hair on it. I put it all back together (simple) and turned it back on.

I checked my email and had a response for getting the rocker re-caned. The guy wanted me to bring it in and talk about it. I wrote him back I couldn’t bring it in and attached some pictures to make it easier for him to figure out what to charge me.

He wrote me back saying there were cheaper weaves that still looked nice and asked if I wanted it refinished. I emailed him back and said I definitely did NOT want it refinished and definitely did want the original porch weave that used to be on it.

So, he’s working on the quote and when he could come and get it. His father died a little while ago and he's in the middle of moving his mother, so it could be a few weeks.

I also read the latest publication that mentioned Jeremy. He had sent me a link to a case study he had done with Microsoft on his private cloud project for his company. Congratulations! Good job!

By that time, it was almost 9:00 PM and I wasn’t in the mood to try and put up the shelf. I also wasn’t hungry, so I drank a bottle of Ensure and took my pills (I was glad I had drank that glass of V8 juice when I first got home, because I don’t think Ensure and V8 would mix well in one’s stomach). Then I took off my brace and lay down to watch TV. But, there wasn’t much on and/or I would have been in the middle of a movie, so I switched to reading until I fell asleep.

Fast forward to about 4:00 AM: I was sound asleep (or as sound asleep as I ever can get) when all of a sudden, someone was talking loudly about one foot away! It scared the crap out of me! Then I realized the voice was telling me it was cloudy, with a slight chance of showers this morning and a better chance this coming afternoon.

Caley must have got onto the nightstand to get a drink out of the water glass I’d left there and stepped on the button for the weather radio. Since there was no god-awful alarm, I knew it wasn’t an alert, so I turned it off and tried to go back to sleep.

Thank $DIETY the shotgun wasn't closer than 12" away! You, sir, would be purchasing a new weather radio.

  2. I thought about that. Unlike Melissa's baseball bat under her bed, my defense weapon is too far away when I'm asleep. I think I need a Glock 9 for under the pillow.
