Ah, Friday morning! It was Friday, sunny, and pay day! What more could a poor working man want?
I had to go to Lowe’s again at lunchtime. So, I stopped first and ate a BLT at the Newburgh Grill. I’m not sure why a BLT, I haven’t had one in a long, long time, but it just sounded good. And, it was.
[Note to self: That reminds me. Another sandwich I haven’t had in a long, long time is a club sandwich. When and why did I stop eating these old favorites?]
I got some lawn edging for the new garden and made it back to work in plenty of time.
I headed home after 5:00, banging on the drum. Once there, I unloaded the lawn edging and took it and the hose reel box into the back yard. I had to restrain myself from starting on the garden (I have a little more planning and prepping to do) because the weather was so nice. Instead, I went inside and worked on balancing my checkbook, updating my budget spreadsheet, filling out the ToDo list, etc.
I also loaded my flash drive with the two pictures I think will work for the Orion project. One is the final photo from Jake. Everybody I showed it to loved his effects (he took out the house behind the cottage, faded the outside edges (like old photos sometimes do) and added some scratches. It looked like a perfect old black and white photo. Maybe too perfect! The only criticism people had, if you could call it a criticism, was that it looked too clear and sharp; too much like it was taken with a digital camera and not an old Kodak box camera.
I didn’t want to bother him because I know he’s extremely busy right now. So, I took a copy of his final product and ran it through my program, adding a little more sepia and some noise. I ran that by the same focus group and they said, “Perfect!” So, I loaded that on the thumb drive, too.
It’s too hard to decide, when looking at a computer screen, how the actual photo will turn out, so I’ll enlarge them both and then choose. I will end up with one ten dollar 8x10 throwaway, but, oh well. Anyway, thanks, Jake, for your help.
[Sidebar: There are WAY too many commas in that last sentence, but I can’t figure out the correct way to write it. I’m getting old…]
I called B___ to see how he was doing. We didn’t talk long as he has some sort of problem with his throat. He sounded awful and I assumed it was hard to speak, so I made it a quick call.
I sliced up an onion and started sautéing it in a little bit of canola oil while I sliced up the rest of the baby redskin potatoes. They went in the skillet with some salt and pepper while I sliced a rope of smoked sausage on the bias. I put the sausage in when the potatoes began to soften. I tossed them all about and let them brown until the potatoes were done. Then I plated half and went in to watch some TV.
I surprised myself and stayed up until almost 11:00 PM!
I cannot explain why you have not eaten a BLT recently - that used to be a staple dinner item. However, if I recall correctly, was it you who complained that club sandwiches were too tall and cut the roof of your mouth? That may have been someone else with a sensitive palate...
ReplyDeleteBazinga! You are correct, sir. That's why I stopped ordering club sandwiches. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHey are you going to post the picture of the cottage on the blog????
ReplyDelete@ kjg: I can, but you won't get the whole effect I'm after. The idea is to have the "old" picture of the cottage surrounded by a four inch mat. On the mat, I'm going to glue on the stuff you and Joe gave me from the cottage (the lamp oil rationing stamps from WWII, Uncle Eddie's fishing license from 1937, Mama Rene's handwritten notes, etc.). If I do it right, it should be pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteHey that is really cool. Thanks for posting the picture it looks great your such a sweet brother in law I really appreciate it and think the picture is awsome!!!!!Thanks
