I overslept a half hour, so I had to hustle just a tad on Thursday morning.
It was supposed to be hot with a chance of pop-up thunderstorms in the afternoon.
Well, it certainly was hot. At one point Jake sent me a text saying we here in Michigan were 4 degrees hotter than he was down in South Carolina!
I had some window shopping to do in the Laurel Park Place Mall, so I didn’t have time to eat lunch. I did grab a #4 sandwich at the 6-Mile Jimmy Johns and ate it back at work (sort of a working lunch).
By the time I finally got home after work, it was 89 degrees F. and we had officially broken the previous record temperature for this day.
It still hadn’t rained, and I thought about doing some outdoor work. But, I realized it was too hot (especially wearing my brace) and I was too worn out (from lack of sleep last night). Since the house was spotless and I didn’t feel like putting together the wagon, I decided tonight was a night off.
So, I just lay on the bed, watching the news and reading during commercials.
The weather alert went off (man, that sucker is loud!) about 6:50 PM. It said there was a severe thunderstorm “watch” for this area. I looked outside and saw that the sun had disappeared and the sky was turning a dirty gray.
I didn’t feel much like cooking, so I just made a grilled ham and cheese sandwich and called that, along with some green olives, dinner.
I watched some more TV and started dozing off around 9:00 PM.
Well, the weather radio didn’t lie. About 9:30, I was awakened by a loud crash of thunder. I turned off the TV and sat in the living room, watching the lightning display and listening to the thunder. It was pretty impressive.
When the storm abated, I went to bed for real.
Another storm woke me up sometime after midnight as it rumbled through. But, it wasn’t nearly as loud and I didn’t get up. I just turned over and went back to sleep.
So, how did you make the sandwich? Your Blog's been a little light on cooking details of late.
ReplyDeleteSorry, but it just wasn't that impressive. I had thawed out some of that Honey-Baked ham. I warmed up the ham in my skillet while I put yellow mustard on two slices of sourdough bread. When the ham was warm, I put it on the bread and topped it with two slices of American cheese. I buttered one side and put the sandwich in the skillet, butter-side down. I buttered the other side and, when the first side was golden brown, flipped it over (just like a grilled cheese sandwich). It was messy, but good.
