I was getting ready for work on Tuesday morning, when a thunderstorm came through. Unfortunately, it had passed by the time I left for work, so I checked the gauge: just under 1/4 inch of rain!
I left work at lunchtime and drove to Dearborn Heights and back to Duke’s Hardware. This time I didn’t screw around, but bought everything new! It cost me over $90.00 (not to mention the $30+ dollars I spent on Sunday for the new handles and those inside brass thingies) but I figured this way I will only have to replace things once in my lifetime (I hope, LOL)!
I was running out of time to stop back at the house and eat, so I got off I-96 at Farmington Road and took a back alley (so I didn’t have to get on Plymouth Road – us locals are getting good at that) to Jimmy John’s. I got my usual turkey sub with the extra cheese but this time I added a pickle to the order.
I got back on the freeway and made it to work before 1:00 PM. I ate my sandwich and pickle (which was huge) while I worked.
Another, more serious thunderstorm started around 4:00 PM, It had slowed to a drizzle when I left for home, but I had to use the wipers due to the spray on the freeway.
I got home and checked the gauge and, even if it doesn’t rain again, I got a good 3/4 inch of rain on my lawn and gardens so far. It doesn’t cure the drought, I know, but it may turn the lawn green again for a little while!
However, watching the news, I realized much more severe weather had occurred north of me. I hope nobody I know lost power or had fallen trees or hail damage!
The guy showed up with the rocker all wrapped in plastic (he had it in the back of an open pickup truck). He unwrapped it as I wrote out a check for the remaining balance.
After he left, I took photos and posted the before and after ones. You can’t really tell by the photos, but it’s perfect! All I need now is the back cushion (and it should be here sometime next week) and the rocker project will be complete.
I decided to NOT try and install the new plumbing until I can get a one-inch box wrench (one of the few wrenches I do not have, or did and lost or misplaced it). I don’t want to mess up the new brass fittings installing them (like I did getting the old ones off). I called O’Reilly’s and they do carry single wrenches for sale, do have a one-inch one and will be open tomorrow at 7:30 AM. So, I’ll go get it in the morning.
In fact, the only project-related thing I did was to clean off the pipe threads for the tub faucet with a wire brush.
After the NBC Nightly News, I made my dinner. I reheated the rest of the beans and warmed up two burgers. I ate the burgers with cheese and yellow mustard on buns.
I watched some TV until I started to feel sleepy and then went to bed early for a change.
So now you can sit on your rocker with the fireworks picture on the computer and pretend your on the porch at Lake Orion watching the fireworks!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Well, I could, I suppose. But, you couldn't see much of the fireworks from the porch (hell, you could only just see the high ones even at the end of the dock!) The trees got in the way.
ReplyDeleteAnd, even at it's worst, the Plymouth Road construction couldn't match the traffic jam on Height's Road, trying to leave after the fireworks.
Plus, without the back cushion, I couldn't sit in the rocker all that long.
So, it would be pretty hard to recreate. I think I'll just keep the 63 years of memories...
