  2. Well, I got mine done at Plymouth Furniture Refinishing (Jay Densmore, 734-453-2133) but there's the thing: He didn't do it. In fact, every place I called in the area had the same story. They send that kind of work out.

Out where? Well, to Ed and Cindy Hammond. They used to live in Walled Lake (which is I suppose why everyone around here knows and uses them) but moved to Plainwell, Michigan (near Grand Rapids). They operate "Peerless Rattan" out of a building on their property, but DO NOT deal with customers. They only work through furniture repair stores.

Which is why it takes so long.

There may be other folks who do it, but I wasn't able to find anyone around here. And, no matter who I talked to, they said that Ed and Cindy were the best in the business.

It actually got me thinking about learning how to do it as a retirement business, but I didn't want to practice on the porch rocker.

Hmmm... Maybe the seats in the canoe?
