House Cleaning

I slept in until 7:00 AM on Saturday. Since there were no cats on the bed at the time, I stripped it and started the weekend wash.

I leisurely went through my morning rituals, put the bedding in the dryer and started a second load of laundry. I talked with B___ for a while, catching each other up. When the second load of laundry went into the dryer, I shaved and showered.

I left the house around noon to go grocery shopping at Kroger’s. I got what I had on my list plus one impulse buy (a Phalaenopsis orchid – don’t ask me why, it just they were on sale and looked pretty). See Photos. Then I headed back home. Since I was hungry and didn’t have any real plans for lunch or dinner, I stopped and got an 8-piece bucket of chicken (original recipe) with biscuits, mashed potatoes and gravy from KFC.

Back home, I treated the cats and unpacked the groceries. I divided the three pounds of ground chuck I got on sale into one pound packages and stuck them in the freezer. Then I ate lunch while everything was still warm. It was excellent!

I unloaded the dryer and then started to clean the house. I worked pretty steady on that until about 5:00 PM. Then I went out back, checked the rain gauge (not even a 1/4 inch more) and walked out front to get the mail.

Back inside for the rest of the evening, I changed into my shorts and t-shirt and washed the last load of clothes for this weekend.

I noticed I had some voicemails. One was from my daughter Melissa earlier in the day, who said she, too, was cleaning her house as she had a girl friend coming over, so I didn’t call her back.

The other was from Luanne, who said she was having car problems and wouldn’t be stopping by on Sunday to pick up the bed frame she had stored in my attic. She was up here to drop off my grand daughter Riese, who had spent some of the summer in Virginia and to attend a friend’s wedding.

I did call her back and she said the “Check Engine” light had kept coming on during the trip up here so she took it to an Auto Zone to have them run diagnostics on it. They said it looked like she had a transmission problem, so she is going to take it into a Ford dealer on Monday to have it checked out.

I can’t say I blame her. It’s a long way from home to be broke down on the side of a freeway somewhere. Better safe than sorry.

I warmed up the rest of the potatoes and gravy and ate that, with cold chicken and biscuits, for my supper.

I talked with Jake for a bit who called to check in. It sounded like Carla’s birthday weekend was going well.

I watched a little TV, but mostly read some of the last book I had bought on my recent trip. I wasn’t really paying attention to the time (I was more interested in the book), so I was a bit surprised when I looked at the clock and it was almost midnight! I put down my book, turned off the light and went to bed.
