It had just started raining here when I left for work in the morning.
I didn’t mention this, because it wasn’t that important, but when I got back to work on Monday, a Maintenance guy from Facilities came over and replaced a ceiling tile that had been waterlogged by that rain Jake and I had driven through on the way down to South Carolina. He also went up on the roof and cleaned out the drain and so on. This area has leaked ever since the IT department moved in here years ago, BTW.
Well, the rain was coming down hard today and Matt, who’s sits near the leak, said, “Hey, it’s doing it again!” So, I went over and moved the new ceiling tiles out of the way with my cane. I put the big bowls we keep over there, just for that purpose, under the incoming water and called Facilities.
Tammy in Facilities said, “Well, we can’t do anything until the rain stops and we can get on the roof. Besides, it always drips there.” I said, "You don’t understand, today its pouring in, not dripping!”
The rain was hitting the metal suspended ceiling grids and splashing everywhere, including on top of Matt’s computer. So, I got up and put a piece of tinfoil to divert it into a waste paper basket and borrowed an umbrella to shield Matt and his computer.
Facilities showed up and it turned out there was a crack in the rubber joint where the roof drain went into the downspout outside. It’s probably the cause of all the leaking over all the years, but nobody spotted it until today. I guess with the amount of water now coming in and their flashlights, it was easy.
Anyway, to make a long story short, the fix was they went and got a pool liner repair kit, glued on the patch and the water stopped. I did use my phone to take a picture of my temporary fix for you, though.
I went home at lunch (in the rain) and ate a sandwich.
It was still sprinkling when I can home after work. I did walk out to check the rain gauge and it had almost 1 1/2 inches in it! I didn’t dump it as it’s supposed to rain off and on all weekend, and I want to see what the final total is. But, that was a great start!
I made another sandwich and had that, along with a small bag of chips I bought from the machine at work and brought home with me, for dinner.
I putzed around doing little things in the house and then finally watched some TV until bed time again.
