Hump Day

Well, the high humidity of Tuesday evening turned into fog Wednesday morning with rain predicted in the afternoon.

As I was backing out to go to work, I noticed the two wicker chairs were gone. Had I thought someone would want them, I would have put out the little wicker table, too (keep the set together, so to speak). But you can only put out two large items a week for trash pickup. Oh well, maybe next week...

I went home at lunch to find my neighbor and another guy (I assume the new tree guy) just beginning to cut down the maple. After I ate a BLT sandwich, I walked out and asked the neighbor if he wanted the cash now, since I was there. He suggested I wait, as the guy had another tree to cut down in Garden City (not far from me) and he would probably not rent the stump grinder until tomorrow. So, I told him I’d give him the money when the job was done.

But, after I was back at work, it started to rain around 2:00 PM. So, until I got home, I didn’t know how far they had gotten today, anyway. However, it only rained for a little while (dammit) and then the sun came back out. Apparently, that allowed both the tree cutters and the grass cutters to finish up today’s work (see Photos).

After treating the cats, changing clothes and taking pictures, I started the Wednesday wash. Then I got down those two chairs I made into flower pot holders years ago. Rather than just pitch them, I had offered them to Vicky for her Mom, with the caveat that if she didn’t want them, she would throw them away. Vicky happily accepted, so I wanted to rinse them off with the hose and let them dry before I took them to work. I took them out back in the wagon and, after dropping them off on the patio, I continued out to the compost heap and emptied the garden refuse.

Back at the patio, I hosed off the chairs and the pots in them. I wasn’t trying to “wash” them, just get off the dust and spider webs they had picked up from hanging in the garage for over two years. I put them back in the wagon and hauled them back into the garage to dry.

I put the clothes in the dryer and my dinner (the other two chicken rolls and the twice-baked potato) in the microwave.

After eating and then hanging/folding up the clean clothes, I watched a little TV. I was going to go to bed at 10:00 PM (although I wasn’t that sleepy) when I saw that “The Big Sleep” with Bogey and Bacall was on Turner Classic Movies. So, I started watching that.

I made myself a snack about halfway through the movie: celery sticks smeared with that Kraft Pimento spread. You know, the kind that comes in the little glass jars that you have to pry the lid off with an old fashioned beer bottle opener? My Mother used to save the jars for bathroom glasses and, I must admit, I save them too.

I can’t figure out why they still have the “Pimento” and the “Old English” (both tasty) but not the “Roka Blue” (my favorite). Kraft probably bought out the company that made them when I was a kid and dropped it after some sort of taste test, I guess.

The movie ended at midnight and I went to bed.
