Wrapping a present

I was wrapping a present this morning and it occurred to me: I learned this 40 years ago while working in a laundry.

I was working in my first or second job. My brother Joe, who went off to the army, got it for me, as he worked there first. It was in a laundry on Harper in Mt. Clemens. Fran, Amy and I lived in an apartment next door. The apartment wasn't much and smelled bad, due to a Mexican neighbor who cooked pinto beans every freakin' night (which is why, I suspect, I dislike Mexican food to this day).

And, the worst part of it was I had to pick up the laundry sheets from the various hotels in Mt. Clemens who still advertised "Mineral Springs" (something Mt. Clemens was famous for, back in the day), They stunk like sulfur and it made me gag.

But, anyway, the father of the owner Dave Mercer (a friend of both Joe and my brother Jim), worked there as well. And he used to wrap the shirts that people, who didn't want them on a hanger, had cleaned (Yes, they still did that).

And, I watched him and learned how to wrap a box.
