January Thaw, Part Three

I was up again during the middle of the night for a couple of hours, so I woke up late on Saturday and had to really hustle to make my 9:00 AM haircut appointment. But, I made it in time.

On the way back home, I stopped at Office Depot and got some self-laminating sheets. I doubled back about 200 feet and went through a McDonald’s and got a sausage and egg McMuffin (I didn’t eat breakfast before due to time constraints). I wolfed it down before getting home. So, I treated the cats and ate my morning pills.

Then I laminated my current proof of insurance. I always do that and my registration, too, (although B___ told me that was illegal) because the printing comes off on the holder I keep them in.

I was lying on the bed, petting Scruffy, when I decided to brush him. Unlike Caley (who freaks), Scruffy will put up with most of it as long as you talk to him in a soothing voice. Everything was going well, until I brushed his bum. He turned around and bit me good (I needed a Band-Aid), But, I didn’t yell at him, picturing myself if somebody decided to brush my butt, unannounced.

I watched some taped TV shows and fell asleep about noon. A nap is good, right? WRONG! I woke up at 2:00 PM, which meant I missed my 1:30 massage appointment! I called and Margaret was understanding. She didn’t have any appointments for next Saturday, so I’ll have to wait two weeks. On the plus side (I guess), I didn’t have to go in with my nose running.

Since it was so nice out (63 degrees F. when I checked) I got a garbage bag and my trash picker-upper and went out to clean my back yard. My favorite piece of trash was an entire box of Little Caesar’s Hot and Ready pizza. Yeah, that’s something you couldn’t throw in a trashcan…

I filled up the bag and then picked up fallen branches, so the yard looked great when I was done.

I missed a call from Melissa, who called when I was on the phone with Jake.

For dinner, I thawed out some of that cabbage casserole (remember, the goal here is to empty out the chest freezer) and a rope of smoked sausage. I cut the sausage on the bias and fried it up with a sliced onion. I warmed the cabbage casserole in the microwave. Together, they made a satisfying meal. I put the leftovers in the fridge when they cooled.

I watched some TV but, in spite of my nap, I still went to bed before 10:00 PM. However, before I did, I went outside and sat on the porch for a while, enjoying the warmth on January 12, before the January Thaw is just a memory…
