I slept lousy on Wednesday night, which meant when the alarm
went off at 5:30 AM on Thursday morning, I shut it off and decided to “just lay
there a minute” before I got up. When I woke back up, it was five minutes to 7:00 AM! So, I freakin’ scrambled! Thankfully, I
had written the Blog post the night before, so that got done. But testing
Melissa’s gift coffee cup went right out the window (along with making a cup of
coffee). In spite of the obstacles, I did manage to get to work by 7:50 AM, bundled up like an Eskimo, again.
The weather was bad, but not as bad here as they made it
sound on the news. When I opened my car door to get out, I saw a Nissan
ignition key lying in the snow (we were having a light snow with high winds) on
the sidewalk. So, I picked it up and planned on putting it on the
receptionist’s counter to see who lost it.
Both Fred and Vicky had beat me in, so I asked Fred what
kind of SUV he drove (I knew the color, but never paid any attention to the
make). He said, “A Honda, why?” I explained and Vicky shouted out, “Oh no!”
Turns out it belonged to her car. I never did hear a good explanation on how it
might have fallen off. I was just glad it landed where it did and I saw it.
Otherwise, the entire IT staff would have been out there searching after 5:00 PM to find it.
It was well after 8:00 AM
when other began to straggle in, all with horror stories about whiteouts. I
checked the news on the Internet. While Vicky (who’s Mother woke her up early
because of the weather and traffic reports on the news and so she left home early), Fred
and I didn’t see any problems, there was a 35 car/semi pile-up on I-75 that
resulted in three deaths (two children) and 20 taken to the hospital just past
Detroit and another 30 car pile up south of Flint with multiple people hurt.
Whiteouts can suck!
It was not a nice day outside. So, I walked inside for 15
minutes at 10:00 AM and declined to
go home and eat the rest of the Mini Man burgers for lunch (as was my plan).
Instead I drove about a block to the Time Out and had a grilled ham and cheese
on rye with fries for lunch.
My afternoon walk was inside as well.
The winds had abated, but not died off, when I drove home.
But the snow kept falling and blowing…
As I said, I was beat from lack of sleep last night, so all
the plans I had made during the day for tonight’s activities went out the
window. I did make a cup of coffee, like I always do, but this time used my new
cup. And then I sat there, waiting for something to change… and sat there.. and
sat there…
Now, I have seen coffee cups that, when warm, the girl’s
bikini falls off (hint to Missy for next year) but NOTHING happened. WTF?
Finally, I gave up and just drank the damn coffee. Then,
after updating the Blog, I watched the end of the NBC Nightly News.
I warmed up the kielbasa, sauerkraut potatoes and onions for
dinner (it was too chilly for mini-burgers) and ate that watching a DIY show. I
cleaned up the kitchen and watched another hour-long taped show. Then I gave up
all pretense of doing anything else and went to bed just after 9:00 PM.
Cold water?
ReplyDeleteHmmm... I'll try that. Wait one. I'll be damned! Yes, you can see Houdini's face inside the jar and above in the clouds in another picture. Who would have thunk it?
