Going Down the Drain

It was lightly snowing in the morning on my drive into work on Thursday. This occurred off and on throughout the day, but never really accumulated.

I had noticed that the kitchen sink under the dish rack had started to drain slow. This reminded me just how long it had been since I treated the drains (I used to do this twice a year). So, I went to Home Depot at lunch for saber saw blades and drain cleaner. I grabbed a couple of hot dogs on the way out (hey, a guy’s gotta eat, right?)

After work, I treated cats, changed clothes and then got my gallon of drain cleaner. Following directions I put two cups of the gel down every drain in the house, except for the main bathroom, since I just put that plumbing in. I set the timer for 15 minutes, again according to directions, and went to watch the news.

Now, the directions also say you should rinse the drain cleaner with hot water. But, how do you run the water long enough to get hot water without it going down the drain? Simple. I used a small bucket in the tub to collect the water until it was hot. The cool water went into the toilet. Then one bucket each of hot water from the tub tap went down each treated drain.

I was washing the kitchen sink when the phone rang. I rinsed my hands and dried them quickly, but they had hung up before I got there. It came from Jake and Carla’s house, so I called them back.

I talked to both Jake and Carla. Jake’s story was longer but Carla’s story was funnier.

When we finally exhausted our collective tales, we said our goodbyes. I made leftovers for dinner at 8:00 PM.

I watched a Netflix movie (the new True Grit, again) and then went to bed.
