I overslept Thursday morning. I guess trying to stay
up and watch the hockey game was a bad idea. But, I put it in high gear and
managed to still get to work 10 minutes early.
I went to Westborn at lunch. I needed some apples and
wanted some beef stock to thin out my soup. I found they now have HoneyCrisp
apples again (my favorite) but they were rather pricey: $3.99 US per pound! For
comparison, I pay $1.99 per pound there for Granny Smith apples. But, I decided I was
worth it and bought three. I also bought two boxes of beef stock.
Once home, I made a BLT for my lunch.
The storm was supposed to hit here around 4:00 PM,
with severe thunderstorm warnings, flood watches and a tornado watch until 8:00 PM.
We were on the warm side of a cold front (it was 77 degrees F. here today for
the high). By comparison, the same storm (on the cold side) was already in Wisconsin
and dumping enough snow that the schools were closed, according to my daughter
Amy. The storm stretches from Texas to Michigan
(thanks, Rick, LOL).
But, it blew in here early, about 3:00 PM.
And I do mean “Blew!” Wind gusts were up to 50 MPH! In fact, our techs reported
that it blew off a skylight on one of our buildings and the rain was pouring
in. They moved the computers out of the way and put garbage cans in place to
try and catch some of the water, while Facilities went up on the roof and tried
to secure a tarp over the hole in the wind and rain.
At my building, the rain on the roof was coming down
so hard it almost drowned out voices and made it hard to communicate with each
other. If you looked out of the window, it was going sideways, not down.
Thankfully, it eased up a bit before I left for home.
And, the tornado watch was lowered to just 6:00 PM.
When I got home for the night, I found the electricity
had gone out earlier again (second time in two days) and I had to reset all the clocks,
again.
The rain picked back up (but not the wind) and it was
raining pretty hard again by 7:00
PM.
Inside, I added beef broth to each of my containers to
turn them back into soup. I will have to remember to re-season each one when I
use it, but for now, I labeled three of them and stuck them in the freezer. I
left the last one in the fridge to eat sometime soon.
But, for tonight’s dinner I warmed up a brat. I ate it
on a bun with deli mustard and the rest of the mac and cheese. I finally figured out how to warm up typical
leftover blue box mac and cheese and make it taste palatable. I add a little milk and a
small amount of shredded cheddar cheese. I take it out when that cheese starts
to melt and stir it and “Presto!”
I watched the news, but didn’t see anything all that
interesting for tonight on TV. So, I switched to reading the magazines that had come in the
mail yesterday and today. I went to bed around 10:00 PM
to try and catch up on some sleep.
