Monday Moanin'

Monday came too early again, on one hand. (One of the women at work, who shall remain nameless, said that Monday was like a man, it always comes too early!) On the other, I needed a break from manual labor!

I forgot to mention that I had expressed my concern about my neighbor being able to drive to the back yard with all the ruts. He said he’d get in there, but he could have his guys (he has “guys”) take some of the excess dirt and wheelbarrow it back to fill in more ruts. He said it was too bad I didn’t have more dirt, though. So, Monday morning, I called Angelo’s again and ordered five more yards of screened top soil.

I went to the Township office at lunchtime and gave them my application for a permit and the hand-drawn sketches of the shed that my neighbor said they would need. The woman told me they would be reviewed and they would get back to me within a week on whether or not it was approved and how much the building permit would cost.

I went home, took a picture of the dirt, and ate two brats on buns for lunch.

There were two guys from a wallpaper company Facilities had hired to repair loose wallpaper seams in our building. They were using a propane torch (which seemed sketchy) to warm up the wallpaper, sliding glue underneath the seam and rolling it down with a little wood roller. I asked if that was special glue and they said it was just stronger wallpaper glue. I said I had a few seams showing in mine (Jake had the downstairs room wallpapered, if you remember) and was gonna just use Elmer’s glue (when I got around to fixing it). They recoiled in horror and said, “Don’t do it! It will make the wallpaper harder to take off. Please take some of this glue, for God’s sake!”

So, I scrounged around to find something to put it in and finally found a little bottle with a screw top. I went back and only one of the guys was there (the other was working someplace else in the building). I took about a tablespoon full and put it in the bottle. About 15 minutes later, the other guy came in to my office with a Styrofoam cup half filled with paste and covered with a baggie. I told him I got a little from the other guy already and he told me to take his as well. Nice guys! Oh, by the way, they were using the propane torch because they were moving all over the place where extension cords would be a problem. You normally would use a heat gun. Leave the propane torch to the professionals!

Pulling in the driveway after work, I noticed there were tire tracks next to the dirt. But a quick glance at the rear before driving in the garage showed me nothing. I took the trashcan out to the road and went in and treated the impatient cats.

A glance out the kitchen window showed what I thought was a pretty small pile of wood for a shed. Was this the first load? So, I walked out to tale a photo for you. That’s when I saw that all the sides were already framed in and lying flat on the ground! Small pile, hell! That’s all that was left!

I was sore and beat, so I decided to take the night off to rest. But, before I did, I put the Preen out on the raised bed herb garden (I decided I have enough mulched gardens here, lol!) according to directions. Then I watered the bed (again per instructions).

I watched the news and then warmed up two brats for dinner. When the hockey game came on, I switched to that channel. It was an excellent game, for a change, and not just because we won. It was fast-paced and very physical. The suspense was tangible as we had to tie it up before the end of the game and then win it in overtime. It ended after 11:00 PM. So, I just went to bed.
