Tuesday was cold and windy. Not just in the morning, but all
damn day. So, I really was chillin'.
But, I made myself walk outside both times, anyway. I figure
it’s good practice for when winter really comes…
I went to an antique shop at lunch and bought three more
books. Well, I actually had four of them in hand, but when I took them up to
the counter, the little old lady who waited on me started going through them
for the prices. She stopped and exclaimed, “Oh, wherever did you find this one?”
I said, “In the back, why?”
Now, I need to explain something. I was choosing books based
solely on their size and age. I never even looked at their titles, since I plan
on basically trashing them, by gluing the pages together and drilling a hole in
each of them.
Back to the story: She said, “Well, my late husband and I
used to read this book to our children at bedtime.” I pushed it towards her and
said, “I’ve changed my mind, then. I don’t want it.” She said, “Oh, no! You
have to take this one, you’ll love it!”
So I said, “You don’t understand. I don’t want to buy a book
that means so much to somebody.” Then I explained my plan. She said, “I see.
Thanks. But promise me you’ll bring in a picture when you’re finished!”
Sigh…
I stopped at CVS on the way home and picked up a refilled
prescription, but still made it home to watch the weather. It’s not a good
forecast, at least for the rest of this week. I went back out, retrieved the
trashcan, and then came in for the night. I was just in time to get a call from
my grandson, Joe. He called to thank me for their anniversary card.
I asked how his wife, Jerica, was doing (She has about a
month to go before their son is born) and how Travis was (He’s in Head Start
and loves it). We chatted for a while longer and then said our goodbyes.
I changed clothes and had a final cup of coffee while I
checked the Internet. I stopped at 6:30 p.m. to watch the NBC Nightly News (a
usual routine).
I warmed up a plate of pot roast, veggies, mushrooms and
those silly potatoes for dinner. Actually, I did figure out something about the
“Crash Hot Potatoes.” I under-seasoned them with salt when I baked them. They
tasted much better with a little more salt. But, I still don’t think I’ll make
them again.
I watched a couple of TV shows and went to bed around 10:30
p.m.
