Monday, it was 30 degrees F. with a North wind at 5:30 a.m.
The bad news was that was the predicted high for the day, with temps falling
throughout the day to 0 degrees by Tuesday morning. It’s not quite the polar
vortex of a few weeks ago, but we are heading for the deep freeze for the rest
of the work week.
I drove to work in a light rain. I kept checking at each
stoplight, but it didn’t seem to be freezing. Until, that is, when I pulled
onto the street where I work. The back of the car slid out and I just barely
got it back on track. Solid ice!
I went to the Honeybaked Ham store at lunch and got another
smoked turkey breast. I also picked up a small bowl of pasta salad for my
lunch. I was going to get some bread there as well, but they had run out on Sunday
and the bread delivery hadn’t come yet. They gave me the change in another
coupon! I still have three more back at home…
So, I went over to Kroger’s and got some bread, eggs and
ketchup. That’s all I could remember from the grocery list (sitting on my
kitchen counter). I drove back to work and ate my pasta salad while reading a
book.
It was lightly snowing on the ride home, but it didn’t seem
to have any effect on the drive. I got home at the usual time. I treated the
cats and then went back outside. I took the trashcan out to the road. I’m not
sure if the garbage workers had today off, (I doubt it) but, if so, it may sit
there until Wednesday.
Back inside, I changed clothes and decided to bite the
bullet with the water pipe. I figured out the angles, marked it with a pencil
and cut it off. Then I measured it and cut the downward pipe in the correct
spot. I cleaned off both cuts, inside and out.
I still haven’t decided whether or not to try and solder it
myself. But it’s ready for “somebody” to solder. I quit at that point to watch
the Nightly News on Channel 4.
After the news was over, I warmed up a plate of corned beef
and cabbage for my dinner. It was still tasty!
I watched a disappointing Red Wings game and then went to bed.
