It was only 12 degrees on Wednesday morning! And the high is
forecasted to be only 29 degrees. Happy Spring, everybody!
Note: The record low for this day was 11degrees set in 2001.
So, if it drops another 2 degrees before sunrise, we’ll get another record for
this year.
Sidebar: it did drop another degree, so we just tied it…
Speaking of records, we picked up another official inch of
snow yesterday, putting our snowfall for this winter at 91.7 inches. The record
(1880) is 93.6. So, if we get another two inches before July, we’ll set an
all-time record snowfall, too!
I had to go to the credit union on Merriman, just off of
Chicago at lunch, so I stopped into the Time Out for lunch. The bartender, Kristy,
spotted me and asked if I liked chicken tortilla soup. I said that I had had it
once and liked it. She said they rarely make it, but when they do, they sell it
out in less than an hour and I should try it.
Sidebar, you must know by now if you read this Blog that I
like all kinds of soup (my sainted Mother made the best soups, back when I was
a youngin’). But the only chicken tortilla soup I think I have ever had was
from Buddy’s Pizza. And, I only tried that because Michelle and Vicky from work
swore it was the best soup, ever. So, I tried it, but I was not overwhelmed. It
was good, but the best soup, ever? Not so much. Too many soups, too little time…
But, over time, I have come to trust Kristy and the waitress’s
suggestions. So, I ordered a cup of the soup and a patty melt.
The soup was fantastic! It was a little spicy for my taste.
My nose was running by the time I finished it, but I wished I’d ordered a bowl.
Sidebar: This reminded me of when I was working at the bank
back in the early 70’s and co-workers and I would walk over in the wintertime
and order a bowl of chili from a Coney Island greasy spoon in Mt. Clemens. It
was great, but your nose ran all the way back to work.
The patty melt was excellent as well and I was, frankly,
surprised. They usually don’t caramelize the onions enough here at the Time Out.
Before I left, I ordered a cup of the soup to go to take back to Michelle at
work. They were considerate enough to put the cheese and the tortilla chips on
the side so they wouldn’t soften.
Vicky, unfortunately, was off work. Her baby, Yanessa, was
still in the hospital with pneumonia (since Sunday). I feel bad for both of
them! She sent me a picture, but it just made me feel worse.
I took care of my business at the credit union and then
headed back to work. I gave the soup to Michelle who was busy eating a salad
she bought for her lunch. She said she would eat it later, but she did try a
couple of spoonfuls. She said it was good, but spicy (I know). But, she didn’t
say it was better than Buddy’s.
Back at home after work, it was sunny, but cold. I had
decided I needed to remodel my porch for spring. So, I put out the bird feeders
(not actually used) on the porch rail. Then I replaced my Christmas mat (Bah
Humbug!) with the summer (Go Away!) one and the winter wreath with a spring
forsythia one. Lastly, I hung up the two bird houses and added the bird plaque
from Lake Orion.
I wasn’t going to do the Wednesday night wash, but found
Caley had barfed on the bedspread. So, the Wednesday night wash was on.
I warmed up the last of the city chicken and the “Mock”
garlic mashed potatoes (cauliflower). I ate dinner just before 8:30 p.m.
I watched the taped episode of Cosmos and then went to bed,
burping garlic.
I hope you are enjoying Cosmos as much as I am. This show rocks my world!
ReplyDeleteSo, it goes up to 33 and your putting the spring mat out....hmmmm
ReplyDeleteIf your ever in Pontiac, go to "Jalapeno's" on Baldwin they have the very best soups there!!!!
@Carla: I love this show. Its science, presented in a practical, understandable way. I owe both you and Jake for turning me onto it!
ReplyDelete@GPF: Thanks for the tip! I definitely will check it out. I love good soup!
