Friday, Jake had to work. So, Carla and I ran errands in the truck. We stopped at the Old Thyme Meat Market (for my onion sausages), Kroger's Lowe's and Whole Foods.
We ate lunch at Smash Burgers. Instead of a beef burger, I had a chicken filet (I'd had more than enough beef, thank you).
We stopped by her brother's house so I could visit with her mother, who's here for Easter.
When Jake got home, we kicked several ideas around and decided to go with an easy dinner: Pizza! It was delicious.
We watched a little TV, but spent the rest of the evening playing Scrabble. Needless to say, I lost (again).
Saturday, it was warm but raining. That changed our road trip plans so, instead, we went to an English Pub for brunch.
I had a traditional English breakfast (I'll have to verify this with my brother Carl). That consisted of two eggs (I had mine over easy), rashers of English bacon, a banger (sausage), fried mushrooms, grilled sliced tomatoes, lightly toasted bread (no butter) and baked beans (of all things). Fantastic, but very filling...
Back home, we went for a movie marathon and watched Kill Bill, Part I. Then we split up take out assignments. Carla and I headed to a barbeque joint for ribs and half a chicken, while Jake went in the other direction for some sides.
The barbeque place was interesting and quite different than Michigan places. It was a small metal building, with a lean-to roof. Big barrel smokers under the lean-to were pumping out delicious smelling smoke. You walked up to a window in the metal shed and placed your order (no calling ahead). and the people inside packaged up your food and gave it to you through the window. This is supposed to be the best BBQ around, but their sides are mediocre.
Sidebar: I am not sure Michigan Health Inspectors would let you have this set up, up there.
We met back at the house. Jake went to another BBQ place that has great sides, but mediocre BBQ. So, he brought back mac & cheese, coleslaw and waffle-cut fries.
We fixed our plates and pigged out! It was excellent, but quite messy.
Then we watched Kill Bill II, played a game of Rummicube and called it a night.
Well, you missed the baked beans, but other than that Right On
ReplyDelete@ GPF: I don't get it. Are you saying the baked beans I ate were not authentic British food? Or that I forgot to mention baked beans (see post)?
ReplyDeleteBTW... Somebody should explain to our British friends on what "toast" is...
