Mushrooms
I
grew up on a dairy farm. My father, who was an accountant, did peoples
taxes on the side. One of his friends was a mushroom farmer. In those
days, they grew the spores in horse shit and, quite frankly, he smelled.
But, he paid for his taxes in one or two boxes of button mushrooms. My
mother would slice them up and cooked them in butter in her cast iron
pan and I was always amazed at how they would shrink down. I loved them
then and can't get enough of them now...

Who grew Mushrooms?
ReplyDeleteI don't remember his name, but he was on 23 Mile Road and grew them in those half-buried sheds (or whatever they are called).
