...and I had a lot of things planned. But, I woke up late so I
had to hustle. I headed out at 9:30 a.m.
First stop was CVS to drop off a prescription. This took
longer than I thought it would because the pharmacist was working alone and
trying to fill scripts for two people who were waiting. I looked at clip-on
sunglasses (just to kill some time) and found one that fit my new glasses! If
you remember, the last two pairs of glasses I had were too big for any
clip-ons, so I bought these.
From there I went to Leda’s and had breakfast: homemade
corned beef hash, two eggs over easy and rye toast. Then I walked across the
parking lot to Aco and bought a big jug of Weed-B-Gone (20% off!). The dandelions
in the vacant lot next door are migrating to my yard.
I sat in the truck and programmed my phone for the bike
shop. Then I headed out to White Lake.
Sidebar: It always amuses me that the lady in the phone
calls it “Novy road” instead of Novi road.
As I said before, there is some beautiful lakes out there
and it was a pleasant ride. I got to the shop about 11:00. I shot the sh*t with
Steve and his partner (I wish I could remember his name – nice guy) for a while
and then bought two quarts of oil and a special battery charger.
You see, I know how to use the sight gauge to check the
engine oil, but realized I didn’t have any to add to the crankcase if needed.
And, everybody says (even Steve, before I bought the bike) that changing the
battery is like a tough, two hour job. So, most owner’s keep it on a trickle
charger when leaving it sit for long periods of time. This particular charger
(called a Battery Tender) is designed to shut off when the battery is fully
charged and is hardwired to the battery. You simply attach it to the plug,
rather than using those battery clamps.
Anyway, I took the long drive back to Livonia and stopped at
Kroger’s. I filled my cart from my list and then checked out. Next stop was
Westborn for three items: sweet corn, prosciutto and pine nuts. I got
distracted in the cheese room and ended up with about 10 items!
I got home about 1:30 p.m. and unpacked the truck (which was
getting full!) I put away all the groceries and that's when I discovered I forgot the pine nuts! Damn! Then I changed clothes. I trimmed
the sweet corn and put it in my stock pot, then filled it with water.
I went out front and sprayed all the dandelions. Then I came
in and took a nap.

I woke up and went out to cut the back grass. It was a
little after 5:00 p.m. I was just going to cut around the downed pine tree, but
my neighbor saw me. So, he jumped the fence with his chainsaw and cut it up for
me!
I finished up about 7:00 p.m. and then hustled to get the
charcoal lit for my dinner. When the coals were ready, I spread them out and
started roasting the corn.
When it as finished, I shucked it outside and stuck
the ears into the oven that I had preheated to “warm.” Then I grilled a pack of
hot dogs for next week and a strip steak for tonight’s dinner.
I ate dinner (which was excellent) while watching another
episode of Sherlock on Netflix. I watched another one and then the news. I
finally went to bed about midnight.

Yard is looking nice. You guys finally got some green, I see.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes, we finally are starting to look like spring around here.
ReplyDeleteYes, yard is looking good John, Dandelions aren't that bad YET....you could spray the lot next door.
ReplyDelete@GPF: It's the YET I fear.I don't think I could afford to spray the lot next door (even at 20% off). Never had this problem when I had Tru-green spray every month. Trying to maintain it myself now, and its a b*tch!
ReplyDeleteDon't fear the Yeti.
ReplyDeleteGood one!
