I woke up at 3:00 a.m. on Father’s Day and couldn’t fall
back asleep. So, I processed my photos and published the Blog. Then I went back
to bed and read until sleep finally caught up with me.
Unfortunately I slept in until 9:30 a.m. I raced through
Sunday chores, a shave and my shower. But, it wasn’t until almost 11:00 a.m.
that I was dressed and had the bike idling. So much for an early morning Sunday
drive.
But I had a check from UMR to deposit, so I drove down
Plymouth Road to the bank at Wonderland Mall and then back. I stopped and
filled it up with gas (Wow! Gas prices took a jump!). In the end, I probably
put a whopping five miles on the Big Thumper.
I definitely need to ride it more. I’m fine while I’m
moving. Steering by leaning has all come back to me. It’s just slowing down and
stopping that I still suck at. But, it will improve, I’m sure.
Back at home, I started the weekend wash. I had a nice
voicemail from Carla’s mom, Acenter, wishing me a happy Father’s Day.
I ate some lunch, two small baked potatoes, with sour cream
and butter. I turned on the oven and baked a pound of thick-sliced bacon.
My daughter Melissa called to wish me a happy Father’s day
and we talked for about a half an hour. The work on their new house is going
slow. She is still unpacking and can’t find her bras. I suggested duct tape.
That reminded me and I emailed Jyl for Joe’s phone number.
When she responded, I called Joe and wished him a happy Father’s day.
Then I took a Father’s day nap.
When I woke up, I went outside and set up a sanding station
on the lawn. The wind was blowing hard from the south. So I put it on the north
side of the driveway (to keep the sawdust off the bike and truck). I used the
palm sander and 60-grit paper to sand the p*ss out of three of the project
pieces. That took about an hour.
I put away the saw horses and plywood. Then I got a 1x8 and
set it across my lap on the rocker and started carving on two of the pieces.
This project requires a lot of carving. When my hands started hurting, I quit,
blew off all the sawdust and wood chips from my clothes and buttoned everything
up for the night.
Next, I made my Father’s Day/Sunday supper.
Dinner was not a cook out. I thought about it, sure. I even
had a couple of things planned. But then I realized I grill out all summer
long, so why would that be “special?”
Instead I boiled up some fresh Buitoni crab ravioli and warmed up some
jarred Alfredo sauce. A simple salad and I had an excellent dinner.
I watched some taped TV until Mountain Man came on. I watched
that and then went to bed. Sidebar: Marty has a plane???
As far as Father’s day goes: Thanks to Jake and Carla for the
card. Thanks to Amy for the subscription to Food Network Magazine and the post
on Facebook. Thanks to Melissa for the phone call. Thanks to Acenter for the
voicemail and thanks to Jyl for the email.
And, for all you fathers out there, Happy Father’s Day.
Happy Father's day to you as well. Hope you enjoyed your Long ride!!
