Wednesday dawned cloudy and overcast. I checked the glass
and found it had fallen overnight. The prediction was for steady rain, starting
around noon.
Unfortunately, it started about 11:00 a.m.
I called Jon Boy landscaping and asked them to put me on the
list of lawns to cut until I get my lawn tractor fixed. At first they got me
confused with Jake (we both used them in the past), but we finally got it
straightened out. What was nice is that they still haven’t raised their rates.
But, what was not so nice is they now have a fuel surcharge (currently at $5.00
per month) to address the rising fuel prices.
BTW, Jake, she said, “So, you live in Westland?” I said, “No,
I’m the cuter Goerlich who lives in Redford!” She didn’t laugh…
I put on my raincoat and ventured out at lunch. I stopped in
at Time Out and had a cup of excellent chicken noodle soup and a grilled ham
and cheese sandwich. Then I slowly made my way down Plymouth Road to the
24-hour grocery store. I noticed last night my automatic feeder was getting low
on cat food, so I picked up a bag of Purina Cat Chow.
My friend from Facilities, Michelle, brought me over some
bean with ham soup she made using one of my recipes. So there was tonight’s dinner,
solved. I was happy, until she said she used the ham bone (I used a smoked ham
hock) from a Honey Baked ham. I was then afraid the sweetness of the ham bone
would wreck it.
It was still raining at 3:00 p.m., so I walked inside. I was
hoping it would stop before the drive home after work.
It didn’t… So, it was a long, slow drive home.
It was still sprinkling, but the sky was lightening. So, I
walked out back to check on my gutter improvements. It wasn’t pouring over the
gutter, but on the other hand, it wasn’t pouring, so I don’t know... I checked
the rain gauge and I had a solid half inch of rain so far.
Back inside, I started the Wednesday night wash. I watched
the news until it ended at 7:00 p.m. and then went out to warm up my soup.
I ate dinner and, alas, it was as I feared. It wasn’t
overpowering, but the Honey Baked ham bone gave it a (to me) unpleasant sweet
taste. I added some salt and ate it anyway.
I had the last of the watermelon for dessert and hung up my
clothes.
I watched some taped TV until about 10:00 p.m. and then went
to bed.
"She didn’t laugh…"
