I woke up at the usual time (5:30 a.m.) on Sunday. I dawdled
for a long while, enjoying a third day of my holiday weekend. I finally had a
second cup of coffee and made some soft boiled eggs for breakfast.
I stripped the bed and started the weekend wash. Then I shaved
and showered and got ready for a bike ride.
But, my friend B__ called and we talked for a while. A long
while. By the time we finished, it was almost 11:00 a.m., the wind had picked
up and the traffic had picked up. So, I decided to skip Hines Drive and do some
city riding. Before I left, I took a selfie so you could see the goggles.
BTW, the goggles suck. At low speeds, they are fine, but
anything over 40 mph and they push on my glasses, shoving the frames into my
face. They do eliminate that whole tearing thing, but I need some bike
glasses!!!
So, I drove up to the gas station to get some Cope. Then I
took Inkster to Five Mile, Five Mile to Beech Daly, Beech Daly to Plymouth Road
and Plymouth Road back to the house. Why such an uninspiring ride? Because I
really need practice on stopping at and starting from traffic lights. I got the
riding down, but I still suck at that.
So, it was a short ride, but still fun.
Back home, it was already getting hot (supposed to be hot
and humid today with showers after midnight). So, I decided to clean the house,
staying in the air conditioning. Besides, it really needs it!
I changed into short and a tee shirt and started the last
load of laundry. I remade the bed and then started vacuuming.
I managed to get the downstairs, kitchen and living room
done before I got hungry. I took a break and made one of my favorite lunches: a
grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. I added a handful of potato chips and
a McClure’s pickle because it was a holiday weekend. I ate that watching Master
and Commander for the gazillionth (sp) time.
Then I took a nap. Apparently, the bedroom, office and the
main bathroom cleaning will have to wait…
When I woke up, I took out the brats and the T-bone steak so
they could come up to room temperature. Then I took my wood project outside and
sanded off the wood filler. I finish-sanded it with 220 grit paper. Then I took
it back in the garage and started to write the date and my name on the bottom
with the wood burning tool. I say “started” as I got all the straight lines
burned, but will have to finish the curved ones later. This is always a bitch
to do. I need a branding iron!!!
I fired up the charcoal in the charcoal chimney and spread
them in the state park grill when they were hot. Then I grilled the brats (for
later this week) and the steak. I put a pat of butter on the steak and let it rest.
Then I cut a Romaine heart of lettuce in half and cut the pits out of four
peaches. I brushed them all with canola oil and then grilled them.
Sidebar: as you can see in the pictures, I grilled the
Romaine lettuce a tad too long. Not to worry, I cut the burned parts off. I set
the peaches in the oven (preheated to “warm”) and drizzled balsamic vinegar on
the lettuce. I topped the lettuce with blue cheese crumbles and proceeded to
eat a fantastic supper. It was definitely worthy of a holiday weekend.
And then came dessert. I topped two of the grilled peaches
with Edy’s Slow Churned vanilla bean ice cream. Delicious!
I watched some of my taped shows until I got sleepy and then
went to bed. It had been a damn good holiday weekend!

I'm glad you had a great holiday weekend! The food looks excellent. Nice selfie and always ride free!
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree with Carla....glad it wasn't a nude selfie.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of grilling Romaine - is it really better? Do you eat it warm or just room temp? So many questions...
Dinner and dessert look great! The goggles look uncomfortable as all get out. What about an Echo Shorty shield until you get real glasses? Amazon has them for around $10.

P.S. Review from Amazon: "Wearing glasses I have a problem getting goggles that will go over them. The wind in my eyes causes a lot of pain when it gets in the eyes. These shield's do the trick for me as they stop the wind wonderfully. I no longer have to pull over to the side to wipe my eyes and I can Ride in comfort. Thank You Vega Echo for this great product."
ReplyDelete@ Carla: Thanks! I will!
ReplyDelete@ GPF: You eat the grilled romaine warm, with balsamic vinegar and crumbled blue cheese. It's pretty good!
@ Jake: The goggles do suck. I bought the Echo Shorty to try it, but still want to get the riding glasses. Thanks for the tip.
