Friday was another beautiful day in SC. Jake had
left for work and Carla had taken the dog for a walk, so I read on the patio in
the cool morning air.
We left for lunch around 10:30 a.m. We were going to Sakura,
a Japanese restaurant I’d been to several times before and love.
We got there before 11:00 a.m. (their “official” opening
time) but they let us in, along with about five other tables of folks. I think
lunchtime is so busy (and it is) that they are glad to slip a few people in
before the rush.
We both ordered the Udon noodle soup. As I am sure I have
reported before, it comes in a cast iron pot and stays hot as hell throughout
the meal. The broth is to die for. It also comes with a fried prawn, fired
zucchini slice and fried sweet potato. Excellent!
Sadly, I was once again reminded just how much I suck at chop sticks!
We went back home and took it easy for a while. I got dressed about 4:00 p.m., awaiting Jake’s arrival.

When he got home, we left for Camden. Camden is a
medium-sized town, rich in history. For example, it’s the oldest know inland
city in South Carolina. There is a famous Revolutionary War museum/site that I
will visit someday (it was closed this late in the day).
We ate at the Sam Kendall restaurant. The restaurant is located in yet another
old, but beautiful building (SC seems to be filled with them).
We had two appetizers, little lobster cakes and
lobster/shrimp stuffed mushrooms with cheese.
Sidebar: Blogger’s Confession. I can’t show you pictures of
our entrees. By the time they arrived, we all just dug in and completely forgot
to take pictures.
Carla had the fried shrimp (huge) with French fries and
coleslaw. Jake had a surf and turf special, which was a filet with lobster on
top, a side Caesar salad and garlic mashed potatoes. I had the veal picatta over angel hair pasta
and a side of summer squash (both yellow
and zucchini).
Mine was excellent and Jake and Carla said theirs was as
well. I know the fried shrimp was great as I ate one off of Carla’s plate.
We spent a little time in town, walking off dinner, and then
headed home. We made one stop and got a movie from Red Box to watch.
The drive there and back was interesting as, for some
reason, there were a LOT of antique cars and trucks on the road. Maybe they have their own "Woodward Cruise" going on someplace nearby. I saw an old Dodge like I had in high school
and a 1956 Mercury like my brother Carl once owned (except his was the upscale “basket handle” one). Those were the highlights for me, but there were also other old cars and trucks.
We got back home, got into comfy clothes and then watched
the movie. It was called “The Conjuring” (another horror movie).
Unlike the Hell Raiser ones (80’s or 90’s and sort of campy),
this one is a new release. So, the special effects were much more real and it
scared the sh*t out of me!
We watched a South Park episode about Paris Hilton (we had
talked about her earlier) to take the edge off and then went to bed. It was
late, so I didn’t even bother trying to read, I was asleep when my head hit the
pillow.
Reading your blog this week leads me to think you have probably gained at least 10 pounds.....hmmm
ReplyDeleteYou know, I was afraid of the same thing. So, when I got home on Saturday night, I put my robe on and weighed myself. I actually lost four pounds! I attribute that to all the damn stairs I had to climb while in SC. Not only up to my room or the computer at the house, but it seemed like half of the restaurants we went to were one flight up and no elevator. I think (seriously) I worked it off!
