Saturday

It had rained overnight and Saturday’s forecast was occasional showers. I think Mother Nature is taking this “Fall Rains” thing a bit too far!

I woke up at 5:30 a.m. I filled in the blog post drinking a cup of coffee and then made another one to watch the news.

I shaved showered, got dressed and left for the (many) morning errands.

The first was a 9:00 a.m. massage. Then I went to the Honey Baked Ham place and got a sliced smoked turkey breast. Next I got my hair cut.

I stopped at Kroger’s and got some supplies. Westborn was next for a few veggies, some mushrooms and McClure’s pickles.

I headed south on Middle Belt (its two words now, according to the new I-96 signs) to Garden City and the Lucky Dog Daycare and Dog Grooming. It’s a dog grooming/boarding place that Tracey goes to. They are having a food drive (both human and pet) for less fortunate people. So, I filled up a Westborn bag of canned items on my pantry shelves and dropped them off. I don’t have any cat food to spare, lol!

Finally, I stopped at CVS and then went home. It was 12:30 p.m., BTW.

Before I put away the groceries, I took a few moments to go through my fridge freezer. I threw away anything that had ice crystals in the baggie (mostly veggies).

I went in to change clothes and found Caley had barfed on the bedspread. Dammit! So, I cleaned up the mess, sprayed the spot with “Shout” and washed it.

Sidebar: Caley is approaching the “Three Strikes and You’re Out” limit with bed-barfing. But, there are caveats, of course. When Scruffy was alive, I couldn’t pin bed-barfing on a particular cat, so she always got a pass. And, the three strikes rule applies to humans. Since cats have nine lives that would translate to “Twenty-Seven Strikes and You’re Out.” So, it’s difficult to keep track. But I’m watching you, barf girl…

I went to address my daughter Melissa’s birthday card and realized that I have almost two pages of my address book devoted to their various addresses and even more phone numbers. But, I don’t have their new address in Oxford. So, I called the last phone number I have written down and it was disconnected!

So, I called her Mother and got their current address and a phone number. We had a weird connection and I didn’t even recognize Fran’s voice. But, we had a good conversation in spite of that.

I got the card out to the mail box in time. On the way back in, I saw that both mums were now blossoming, so I took a picture for you.

I made a sandwich with the last of the salami, cheese and rye bread that Jake and Carla had bought for my lunch.

I put the bedspread back on the bed. It looked inviting and I decided that a nap sounded good, so I took one.

It was sprinkling again, so cutting the back grass wasn’t going to happen. I did blow the leaves off the patios so I can cut them up tomorrow (hopefully).

I checked the garden. The radishes are spindly and I still don’t see any blossoms on the peas. But there are small green beans coming in. Unfortunately, it’s supposed to be below freezing Sunday morning. So, they might not make it.

On the way back in, still checking plants, I saw that I had some new growth on the chives. So, I snipped a big handful.

Inside, I cut them into short pieces and took out a stick of butter to let it warm up.

I made a turkey sandwich with sourdough bread, smoked turkey, lettuce and mayo for my dinner and ate that with a pickle as well. Both were delicious.

I watched a couple half-hour taped shows (my recorder is filling up!) but my back hurt. So, I moved to the living room, my chair and a book.

Before I got comfy, I went out in the kitchen and mixed the snipped chives with the butter and a little sea salt. I put the mixture on a piece of wax paper and formed it into a roll. I stuck the compound butter into the freezer.

I read for a while and then went to bed around 11:00 p.m.

  1. you actually grew your mums....hmmm
never had good luck with blooms the following year. Think it has to do with the trimming in July, etc.

  5. That Middlebelt thing was always interesting. If you took it from Farmington down to the Airport, the spelling changed about five or six times.
