Sunday's Job Really blows!

I woke up before 5:00 a.m. on Sunday and filled in the rather extensive Blog entry. I got a second cup of coffee and then started cleaning up the kitchen.

It was a more ambitious effort than I imagined. I assume the splattered grease was from the eggplant, but it was everywhere!

Eventually, I ran both the dishwasher and the washing machine (with the last load of weekend wash). Included in the washing machine load was the three kitchen towels I used to wash the stovetop with soft scrub.

Then I went and did all the usual Sunday morning chores. I went outside and it was cold and windy at 10:00 a.m. I had planned on a Hines Park bike ride this morning, but this wasn’t cutting it.

So, I went back inside and did inside things. I returned a call from B___ and we chatted for a long while. He’s doing good, BTW, and has most of his fall chores (boat and motor home) done.

I finally shaved, showed and got dressed. All cleaned up (but with no place to go) I laid on the bed, reading.

I decided it was late enough to start the mowers (I hate to bother my neighbors on a quiet Sunday morning), so I got the blower out. I blew all the leaves in the driveway onto the lawn. Then I tried to blow all the leaves in the gardens back out onto the lawn. That took a long time and yielded poor results.

Then I got out the push mower and cut the front lawn in my mulching pattern. I did the side lawn as well. I blew off the mower so I didn’t bring all the leaves into the garage.

I buttoned up the front and came inside for a cup of coffee to warm up. I made a turkey sandwich and ate lunch as well.

Then I went out back and blew off the leaves from both patios.

I got the mower out of the shed and shut the shed door (I’ve made that mistake before, LOL). I cut all the lawn in back, stopping as needed to pick up small branches that had fallen. When I was finally done I blew the leaves away from the shed door and off that mower’s deck. I locked the mower inside. Then I blew off both patios and the fire pit slab. I thought briefly about having a little campfire (it was chilly enough) but decided it was too windy.

The yard looked nice and I regretted not taking “before” pictures so you could see.

I tried to relocate the Game Trail camera to the tree by the St. Francis garden. I figured I could point it away from the bird feeder, thus avoiding most of the videos of squirrels and birds. But the tree was too big around for the belt. So, I took it inside while I thought about it.

Back inside, I disrobed downstairs and took a rinse-off shower. The leaf dust was everywhere, even inside my work jacket pockets.

Clean and warm, I laid on the bed reading until I decided to take a nap.

When I woke up, it was too late to start planting my bulbs. So, another weekend I didn't check that box on the ToDo list.

I also decided it was too late to start my planned Sunday supper. But I had a box of Brussel sprouts that was starting to look a bit shabby. So, I trimmed and cleaned them, cut them in half and just boiled them.

While they were cooking, I warmed up two of the Salisbury steaks and the last dab of mashed potatoes in the microwave.

I put some of the Brussel sprouts on the plate, topped them with butter and salt and ate a hearty supper. I cleaned up the minor mess and went into the bedroom. I watched some taped TV and then read a bit before bedtime.

  3. @ Jake: I go up and back when cutting the grass. I go around the edge into the middle, blowing the leaves inside when mulching. When I'm down to the last couple of rows i run over all the accumulated leaves a couple/three times.
@ Carla: Not yet. Got to figure out how to mount it where I want it.
