I woke up during the night and had trouble falling back
asleep. But (thankfully) I finally did. I woke up for real at 6:30 a.m. on
Sunday. The first day of the rest of my life.
I filled in the Blog entry and then went in search of
breakfast. I decided on scrambled eggs and an English muffin. I went outside to
grab some chives for he scrambled eggs and was shocked by how cold it was. I
checked the thermometer on the rain gauge and it said it was 33 degrees!
Then I shaved and showered. I got dressed and took a quick
trip to Home Depot. That was one of the few errands that didn’t get done on
Saturday.
Back home, I started the rest of the weekend wash. I gave
some serious thought about riding the motorcycle, but decided it might just be
too damn cold.
I had a voicemail from B___, so I called him back. We caught
each other up on projects, visits from our kids, etc.
When we finally hung up, I blew off both patios and the bird
feeder area. Then I got out the lawn tractor and cut the back grass. Well, the
grass hasn’t really grown in a while, so I mostly mulched up leaves.
Sidebar: My hands and face were freezing! Since the mower
only goes like 5 mph, I can’t imagine what it would have felt like on the Big
Thumper at 40 mph!
I came in at 12:30 p.m., covered in leaf debris. I disrobed
downstairs and took another shower. Then I got dressed in my business-casual
clothes.
I sat in the lift chair, reading a book, waiting on Vicky’s OMW
text. She had a big server refresh at work today and we agreed to go to lunch
when she was finished. Her first few texts sounded encouraging. But then there
was trouble with the Wi-Fi. She didn’t show up until after 3:00 p.m.
She had been talking about a steakhouse in Northville, but
couldn’t remember the name. So, rather than drive around aimlessly, we went to
the Longhorn Steakhouse in Westland.
I had to laugh. She sent and received several texts from
work people asking about the upgrade. Meanwhile, I had a call on the way from
Guardian alarm, saying the motion detector in the office set off an alarm in
Building 3.
Sidebar: I asked Vicky if people were working at Building 3
and she said there were cars parked in front.
Later, I got another call from Guardian, reporting the alarm
was now coming from the shop man door. I told them I thought people were
working, but I’d checked it out as soon as I could.
Disclaimer: By then, we both were too hungry for any picture-taking, so I took the following from their web site.
We got the Brew Pub Pretzel Sticks as an appetizer. They
came with two dipping sauces, a bacon and mustard and the beer cheese. Both
were excellent.
For our salads, she chose a Caesar salad and I had a salad
with raspberry vinaigrette.
My main course was the six ounce Harvest Mushroom filet with
a potato and leek Au Gratin. Vicky had the White Cheddar and bacon stuffed
filet with a loaded baked potato. She said hers was perfect and I know mine was
excellent!
I don’t normally eat dessert (and was too stuffed, anyway)
but she got the molten lava cake topped with ice cream. She couldn’t finish it
and ended up taking most of the cake home with her in a box.
From there, we drove to Building 3. Everybody was gone and
the gates were locked.
I took Hines Drive back to Inkster Road so we could check
out the fall colors. I had to laugh as they have already started to put up the
fixtures for the Christmas Festival of Lights!
Back home, she took a tour of the house and the yard. Then
we sat in the living room and chatted for another hour or so. She left about
6:00 p.m.
I put the last load of weekend wash in the dryer and watched
the rest of the news. I was too stuffed from the late lunch to even think about
dinner, although I’d thawed out shrimp. When the news ended, I checked and didn’t
see anything that interesting on the TV guide, so I went back to reading in the
living room.
I put away the rest of the laundry when it was dry.
I did start to get a little hungry around 10:00 p.m., so I
made half of a turkey sandwich. I ate that with a pickle.
I switched back to the bed, still reading until about 11:00
p.m.

Sounds like you guys had a good time. Your late lunch looked great...nice pics. :)
