Saturday’s Story

I woke up at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday. I read in bed until 6:00 when the news came on. I got a cup of coffee and filled in the Blog.

The weather looks like a hot mess. Snow tonight, nothing much above freezing for the foreseeable future and a high of just 25 degrees on Wednesday.

(Why do I live here, again? Just wondering. Key West and toes in the sand sound pretty damn good right about now!)

I totally putzed, waiting for noon (when it would be warmer). I did a couple loads of wash, ran the dishwasher and ate soft-boiled eggs for breakfast. I finally shaved and showered.

At noon, I pulled the truck out and locked it. Then I tried my idea of turning on the space heater with a pair of pliers. That did not work. So I gave up on the heat option and put the heater and the propane tank back where they belong.

Sidebar: Why do they call it a “pair” of pliers, anyway? It’s only one tool.

So, I dragged all the wood-working tools over to the truck space. Then I went back inside to warm up.

I folded some laundry. Then I went over every calculation I made for the dimensions of the wood I needed to cut for the computer table. I only had just what I needed and can’t afford to fnck this up.

I took a break because I was hungry. So, I warmed up some ham and bean soup I froze last spring. It was excellent!

I ate that, with some saltine crackers, watching a DIY show to give me inspiration.

But, it was already after 3:00 p.m. and I noticed almost all of leaves were now down outside. So, I had to change my focus. I got the blower and a leaf rake and cleaned the patios and the fire pit pad of all debris. Then I got the tractor out, filled it with treated gas and mulched them one and all.

Before I put the tractor away, I put the patio chairs and tables in the shed. I fit in the wheelbarrow as well. I also hung the Game Trail Camera back up (but pointed in a better direction).

It was dark enough that the security lights came on as I walked back inside.

So, I moved the sawhorses and the table saw over to the side and pulled the truck back in.

My daughter Melissa called around 6:00 p.m. and we talked for a long time.

I made some of the chili mac & cheese for dinner and (I confess) ate most of it.

I watched TV until it got boring and then read until bedtime. Note: There was no snow yet...

It’s only one tool that is composed of a pair of layers, or plies, one on the right and one on the left.
