I know, I know, I say that a lot. But it’s Friday and
payday. What more could you ask? Huzzah! As the British seaman used to say in
the 18th century!!!
But, it was freaking cold Friday morning. There was talk of
freezing rain on the weather report, but nothing like that here.
I went to Time Out at lunch and got a turkey club sandwich
with a bowl of chicken noodle soup swapped out for the fries. As the barmaid Christy
told the new waitress Nancy when she asked about substitutions, “John has a lot
of pull here!” Damn straight!
From there, I went to Office Max and bought a big roll of
shrink wrap. I want to encase the desk before I drive a hundred miles to
deliver it. Michigan weather is unpredictable!
A little after four o’clock, my boss told me to go home. I
said, “WTF?” She said, “There’s nothing much going on and I know you have
things to do, so go home.” So, I did.
Have I mentioned I love my boss?
Back at home, it was still light out and I noticed all the
feeders were empty. So, I went outside, carrying the next suet cake and the
roll of stale saltine crackers from last night’s dinner.
Back inside, I got out the rails and the hardware kit for
the pull-out keyboard tray. I checked all my measurements and plotted out how I
would install them.
But, first things first. I cracked the bathroom window, shut
the downstairs door and turned on the kitchen vent fan. Then I set up the
second project in the kitchen and applied the first coat of wipe on poly. It
took some time, even though it’s smaller than the computer desk. But, it has
more nooks and crannies.
I washed up with mineral spirits and then hand soap. This is
getting hard on my hands, BTW. They are starting to get little, painful cracks.
I don’t think skin likes mineral spirits!
I watched Jeopardy waiting for the smell to go away (or at
least lessen). Then I went out and made a salad with lettuce and the rest of
Courtney’s green onions. I topped that with bottled Italian dressing and ate it
while my chicken pot pie cooked in the microwave.
After dinner, I set the alarm for 3:00 a.m. (I needed to get
the second coat of poly on then) and read until I fell asleep.
“This is getting hard on my hands, BTW. They are starting to get little, painful cracks.”
ReplyDeleteBefore you go to sleep one night, coat your hands in a lot of Vaseline and cover them with an old pair of gloves. Your hands will feel much, much better in the morning.
Might work, but sounds icky!
ReplyDeleteAbout your dry hands, I found this stuff called O'Keeffe's Working Mans Hands cream. It is odorless and non-greasy and you just rub it on and that is that. You can get it at Target for like $6.00. I have included a link so you know what it looks like. Just a thought!

@ Carla: Thanks! Using Vaseline Intensive Care hand lotion right now. Seems to help.
