It was 8 degrees when I woke up Friday morning. But, there
was very little wind, which I appreciated!
I had slept well the night before (only waking up three
times to pee and then falling right back asleep) so I was bright-eyed and
bushy-tailed (like my squirrel friends).
My boss asked me to do a quick research project that, at
first, seemed impossible. But, I pulled it off!
We had free pizza at work around 11:30 a.m. So, I wasn’t
that hungry at lunch. But, I still had to go to Time Out to say goodbye to Cristy. So, I just had a bowl of excellent soup.
Turns out she wasn’t leaving for another bartending job. She
said she’s just taking some time off to spend with her five year old son and
her horses. She said she’d drop in and have lunch with me one of these days. “After
all,” she said, “I know where you sit!” LOL!
She won’t, of course, but it was a nice remark.
I polished up my mini-white paper and had it in the boss’s
inbox before 2:00 p.m. She read it, said it looked fine and forwarded it to the
Director.
When I left work at 5:00 p.m., it was 32 degrees. Back at
home, all the icicles were dripping.
I treated the cat, changed clothes and then bit the bullet
and started my taxes. Turned out I was missing my mortgage interest statement.
So, I tried to log into (mybank).com, but my password didn’t work!
I tried to reset it, but then it said my login name was
incorrect. WTF? I ended up calling their customer service line. After five
minutes of dealing with the “say or press” bullshit, I finally got to talk to a
person. Turns out my login and password is not for the general bank website,
only for the (mybank/mortgage).com website!
Sidebar: My mortgage is the only account I have at that bank.
Five minutes later, I had what I needed and went back to
work. I finished up at 7:30 p.m. Turned out better than I’d hoped (but taxes
always make me nervous).
Sidebar: I try to end up at zero (I don’t owe them, they don’t
owe me). I never understood people who get excited when they get $2,000.00
back! Duh, you just lent the government $2,000.00 of your own money, interest free,
all last year! Money you could have had to spend each week. Or put it in the
bank each week if you wanted a lump sum. At least you’d make some interest. Oh,
well, to each his own.
I didn’t end up at zero (both the state and the feds owe me
a tad), but that’s okay. I’ll try to adjust and do better next year.
I warmed up more of the steak tips with mushroom gravy and
put it over more wide egg noodles. Not as good as when I first made it, but it
was still a satisfying meal.
It was after 8:00 p.m. but I didn’t see anything all that
interesting on TV, anyway. So, I turned on the movie Casablanca. Since I’ve
seen it a million times, it didn’t matter that I missed 20 minutes of it. When
that ended, I switched to reading until bedtime.
I agree taxes are terrible. Jake and I always cross our fingers and say big money, no whammies. Usually, the government bends us over anyway!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I don't think there's any way to win the taxes game.
