When I woke up with the alarm on Monday, my right eye was
swollen shut. I used a wash cloth and warm water and, after about a half hour,
I got it to open a slit. Not optimum for driving.
I finally gave up and sent a text to my boss, saying I
wouldn’t be in. I used my last fresh egg to make a fried egg sandwich for my
brunch.
The temperature was an amazing 20 degrees above normal. I
think we eventually hit a high of 67 degrees F. here in Redford. But, it wasn’t
a pretty day. It was cloudy and didn’t “look” warm at all.
Now, I don’t think I mention this, but I had to cancel a Saturday
haircut (which I needed) and an already once-postponed massage (which I REALLY
needed). I also didn’t get to the grocery store, the eye doctor (to get my new
frames) or Costco (for coffee for me and peanuts for the squirrels).
But, in the afternoon, I walked out back and refilled the
bird feeder. I didn’t have any peanuts, so I spread a thick layer of seed on
the twisted bench for the squirrels, the blue jays and the cardinals.
Sidebar: It was nice out and I noticed that, except for a
few patches next to the back wall, all of the snow has left my back yard. And,
there are no puddles or lakes out there. Damn! I was kind of hoping to see the
ducks again.
I kept bathing my eye with a washcloth and cold water and
the swelling has been going down all day. But the purple color was getting more
and more spectacular.
I watched “Sacred Ground” in the early afternoon. I was not
impressed with the quality of the video transfer, but it was damn good to see
that movie again! “Plug your ears!!!” Next I watched “The Ghost and the
Darkness.”
I fixed a can of Campbell’s tomato soup and a grilled cheese
sandwich for my dinner. I tried a trick I learned from Bon Appetit. I still put butter in the pan, but I spread the outside of the bread with a thin layer of mayonnaise. It's supposed to give you a better crust, and it did!
My brother Carl called and we talked for a while. First we
talked about my eye and then about some computer problems he was having.
I watched some TV and did some reading, then went to bed at
10:00 p.m.
Well, I'm glad your eye is a little better! Enjoy your day and Happy St. Patrick's Day all. Enjoy the great wonders of all things Irish! Oh, please don't pinch me.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I won't pinch you, I promise!
