It was warm (by comparison) on Monday morning. I heard on
the news that some folk in my area were still without power, so I felt lucky!
Sidebar: It’s not often that I wake up in the morning
feeling lucky, so I took it! It’s the little things…
I went to the Newburgh Grille for lunch and got the beef
vegetable soup and a patty melt for lunch. Then I walked down to CVS and
finished another undone Saturday errand. It was sunny and above freezing at the
time.
I drove across Joy Road to the gas station and filled up the
truck (another undone errand from Saturday).
We had our staff meeting and I learned that the rumors I had
heard were true.
Later on, our new VP came in to talk with my boss, and then stayed for
a while to catch up on his emails. While he was sitting there, he changed my
meeting with him from Tuesday to Friday. He called over and apologized. He said
he really wanted to meet with me, (I am the last of his employees he hasn’t
talked to), but he just got a meeting at Building 50 he couldn’t get out of.
I said not to worry, I figured he’d just saved the best for last.
He said, “That’s right! I worked my way through the domestic wines and now I’m
ready to try the top shelf!”
Oh, he’s good!
Sidebar: I appreciated the reference to “top shelf.” He could
have just as easily went with “well-aged!”
I had printed off two sheets of paper in large, red font at
work (I don’t have a color printer) that said, “Please throw away.” So, when I
got home, I slipped them into some sheet protectors (I bought them when we
first moved in and hung them in the attic with signs designating storage areas,
such as “camping gear,” “Jake’s stuff,” “Christmas,” etc. They are still up
there, but no longer relevant).
Anyway, I duct taped them to the busted-up trashcan and took
it out to the road.
I left the actual trash in the garage. If you remember,
there was a lot of smelly food in there and I didn’t want to tempt any domestic
or wild animals to rip up the garbage bags.
We are under a Winter Weather Watch for tomorrow (mixed bag
of snow, freezing rain and then all rain) so I went out back and refilled the
feeders while I still could.
I watched the news until I was hungry. I didn’t feel like
leftovers yet, so I made some tuna and peas and served it over buttered wide
egg noodles.
I checked the TV and saw one cable channel was showing “The
Lord of the Rings – The Fellowship of the Ring” without commercials. So, I
watched that from 8:00 – 11:00 p.m. and then went to bed.
