Vicky had shared this photo on Facebook Tuesday.
I didn’t get it so I asked her what it was. She said it’s a
Puerto Rican favorite treat, saltine crackers dipped in coffee (milk and sugar
coffee, BTW). Sort of like Americans dip cookies in milk.
Sidebar: Notice I didn't say "white people." After Donald Trump, I'm working on my political correctness.
I told her that sounded awful, but she insisted it was really,
REALLY good.
Sidebar: This totally reminded me of Jake, when he was in
the Air Force. He wrote me and told me his favorite food was rice when you
covered it with gravy. He said it tasted like candy. I tried it, but didn’t “get”
it at all.
Anyway, I followed her (rather specific) instructions (you
have to use heated whole milk, for example) and ate four crackers for breakfast
on Wednesday.
The dipped crackers were surprisingly good. The salt was
balanced by the sugar. But the coffee was gross (I drink mine black) and I
dumped it out.
I called my lawn service and complained (again) that they
didn’t cut the back lawn. The woman said they wrote down the back gate was
locked. Damn!
I explained the chain is for looks. She said that’s noted on
my records, but this time it was really locked. I further explained that, since
I don’t even have a key for that particular padlock, it was impossible that it
was locked. She said she would have them swing by after their shift today and
cut it.
I went to Time Out and got a mushroom and Swiss burger, no
fries, no soup. I wasn’t that hungry. It
was a beautiful summer day (again), so I cruised Hines Park before returning to
work.
The afternoon was surprisingly busy, so before I knew it I was
headed home.
I treated the cat, changed clothes and started the Wednesday
wash. The lawn service showed up and cut the back lawn. I didn’t go out and
talk to them, figuring they were probably embarrassed.
I watched the news until they left. Then I watered out front, hitting the hanging plants and the
little water can planter. Then I dumped two gallons of water on each rose plant
and the mailbox garden.
I finished up at 7:00 p.m. By then I was hot and sweaty (the
humidity was worse today) and didn’t feel like cooking. So, I mixed some tuna
fish with a chopped onion and mayo. I toasted some sourdough bread and made a
nice tuna salad sandwich.
I put away the laundry and cleaned up the kitchen. Then I
watched one taped DIY show. Then I went to bed.

Gravy on rice is a southern delight! I ate it all the time when I was growing up...mostly because it was cheap.
