I woke up at 5:30 a.m. to light rain. I managed to get the
photos from the wedding posted. Next I started on the long post. I had Paul
Simon’s Graceland in the CD, so I was chillin’ with my coffee. Then I realized I
needed a photo of the program, the wedding invite, Cracker Jacks box and the
pen.
So, I set it up on the kitchen table and took a photo with
my Kodak. I went back to the Blog post (taking
the “Program” with me so I would remember what it said) and finally finished
it. I posted it as a draft, waiting on the single photo. Then I went back to
the camera and plugged it in. And that’s when things went horribly wrong!
Let me explain: My first digital camera was a Kodak. It came
with software to load the pictures on the computer. When it died, I bought
another, better Kodak (10x optical zoom, blah, blah, blah…) It, too, came with
software to download pictures. This was three or four years ago, BTW. Jake
warned me that there were better cameras that didn't require special software. The Kodak worked great for me, so I pooh-poohed him.
Sidebar: I often pooh-pooh Jake’s ideas. And then I end up
eating crow…
Anyway, I didn’t load the software that came with the new
camera. The old software worked fine and still did. But, today, it crapped out.
I plugged the camera in and the software didn’t load. WTF? I
checked the connections on the camera and they were tight. So, I tried it
again. I tried everything (even replacing the batteries in the camera).
Finally, I decided to remove the old program and load the
new. So, I got the disk (I save shit like that). I went to remove the old one
and, 10 minutes later, got an error message saying it was unable to uninstall.
WTF? I tried it again. Same result.
I quit playing around and recreated my display. Then I took
the picture with the phone. I easily processed that, but the Blog didn’t get
posted until almost 9:30 a.m.!
I shaved, showered and got dressed. Then I headed out to
Costco. I was hoping they had gotten my coffee in. No such luck. I fear it’s
gone for good. So, I bought a box of another kind to try.
Sidebar: I realize it would be cheaper to buy the small
boxes in, say, Meijer’s, than these big boxes of 54 or 80 cups just for a
trial. But, I was there, so...
I checked out the cameras there. But, I’m torn. On the one
hand, I like a real camera with a good optical zoom. On the other, I have one in the
smart phone and the digital 4x zoom worked okay at Erin’s wedding. I decided to put
that decision on hold. Before I left, I also got a couple more bags of peanuts
for the squirrels.
I did a quick pit-stop at the gas station and was home
around 11:30 a.m.
I readied two packages to mail and took them to the post
Office. Back home, I decided to take a nap.
When I woke up, I went back to the Kodak software problem.
If I seem to be fixated with this (I could just take out the sim card and the
batteries and throw it away) it’s only because the “before” picture of the
driveway is still in the camera. I can’t recreate that!
But nothing worked. I have a half-assed back-up plan I’ll
try on Monday at work.
Please pass the crow...
So, I went out to the vegetable garden. The dirt looks too
packed down. So, I went in the shed and got some fertilizer and spread it
around. Then I used the Garden Weasel to work it in and work up the soil.
The squash is still compact, but the cucumbers are growing
on my rebar mesh!
Finally, I hooked up the square-head sprinkler and watered
it for about an hour.
Back inside, I was hungry. So, I checked the freezer. I
stuck a Stouffer’s meat lover’s lasagna in a pre-heated oven. Then, I used the
last of my lettuce to make a simple salad. I topped it with bottled Italian
dressing.
An hour later, I ate a very filling Sunday supper.
Sidebar: The lasagna was tasty (it has pepperoni, Italian
sausage, ground beef and pork in it) but not very cheesy.
I watched taped TV shows (I couldn’t find a good movie) until
10:00 p.m. and then went to bed.

If the camera still works and it's just a transfer issue, buy a memory card reader for your PC instead and call it good. You could test this by plugging the card into something that already has a reader, like a laptop.
ReplyDeleteThe garden looks great. Jake always has all the answers...gotta get used to it! :)
ReplyDeleteJake is always right...when will you learn?
ReplyDeletep.s. Garden looks good
@ Jake: I already own a memory card reader for the game trail camera. But, I'll need to borrow a teeny-tiny philips head screw driver from work to get it out.
ReplyDelete@ Carla and GPF: Thanks for the garden comments. I am hoping the skunk stays away and I get some tomatoes this year. As far as Jake being always right... I know, but I don't like it!!!
The memory card is screwed in?!
ReplyDeleteNo, I just thought it was...
