I had trouble sleeping Friday night. I didn’t really fall
fast asleep until about 4:30 a.m. I woke up feeling refreshed until I looked at
the clock. It was 9:30 a.m.!
I had a 9:00 a.m. massage appointment. I sent a text to
Margaret, apologizing and asked if she had any other appointments this weekend.
But the next open spot is two weeks away! Which sucks as my back has been
aching since I moved that damn main workbench.
By the time I ate breakfast (soft-boiled eggs), got cleaned
up and dressed, wrote the Blog and processed my picture, it was noon. I decided
that, since I didn’t have to go to Margaret’s, I’d run the rest of my errands
on Sunday morning and get right to the garage project.
I spent some time sweeping up the sawdust, miscellaneous
screws and smaller bits of wood. Sawdust was everywhere. I can see if I’m going
to be serious about woodworking as a side job in retirement, I am going to have
to invest in a dust collector system.
I had to laugh. This workshop has gotten so messed up! Too many projects and too little cleanup afterwards. But, it used to be organized!
I packed all the rest of the stuff on the wall into a box
and then took down the tool holders. I used a step ladder to unscrew one of the
two pegboards on that wall.
Then the cell phone rang.
It was my friend B___, so I went inside, grabbed a glass of
water, sat on the couch and took a break while we chatted. I was surprised to
see it was already almost 4:00 p.m.
By the time we hung up, I had gotten used to relaxing. All
thoughts of going back out and working had left my head. So, I took a nice nap,
instead.
When I got up, I was hungry. This time I raided the freezer
instead of the pantry and made pierogies.
Sidebar: Kroger’s has been positioning itself as a big
seller of all things “Made in Michigan.” So, a while back, they stopped selling
Mrs. T’s pierogies and just carry Dudek. They are okay, I guess, but I liked
Mrs. T’s.
No offense, Michigan! Do better!!!
Everybody makes pierogies their own way, but I still use the
Sue Plesz method. So, I sliced a sweet onion and fried it in butter while I
boiled the pierogies. Then I drained the pierogies and fried them in batches
(also in butter) until they had a slight crust. I plated some of the pierogies,
topped them with the sautéed onions and added a dollop sour cream on them. A
sprinkle of sea salt and I’m good.
I ate them watching a DIY show I’d never seen before, The
Treehouse Guys. They build elaborate treehouses (well, duh!) and I found it
fascinating. They kept showing episodes of it and I kept watching it until I
went to bed at 11:00 p.m.

Krogers still carries them....sent you an email
ReplyDeleteI got it. But, I swear I looked everywhere and only found the Dudek. I got the potatoes and chives and it wasn't bad, just not what I am used too.
ReplyDeleteIt actually sounds like you had a great Saturday. You talked to your friend and relaxed for a while. Nothing wrong with that at all!
ReplyDelete"No offense, Michigan! Do better!!!"
LMAO, I love it and I'm happy you do listen to me :)
“I swear I looked everywhere”
ReplyDeleteAhh, so this is where your Not-Jake Son gets his “the store doesn’t have it” trait. Now I know. :-)
@ Jyl: But, I did!!!
ReplyDeleteUh huh. You know, every time you – ask – someone who works there where something is a Kroger employee gets their job-security wings. :)
