We started back to summer on Monday. It only go up to 86
degrees, but it was humid and the air was thick. The morning weatherman said there
was fog in places and maybe there was, but not here.
I went to Max and Erma’s because I wanted to go to Lowe’s. I
got their Southern Fried Chicken Salad, lunch portion. Now, I have to tell you
that salad cost me exactly what I would pay for a chicken-topped salad on
special at Time Out. But Max and Erma’s portion size is made for human beings
(for example: Max and Erma’s used like three or four chicken tenders while Time
Out uses an entire chicken breast). So, the result was a good tasting salad
with honey mustard dressing and a bread stick that I could enjoy and finish! No
guilt salad! Who knew?
Then I went to Lowe’s to get some dirt. I made an impulse
buy: a sedum (more specifically, an Autumn Joy sedum). Why? Well, I not only
admired the ones my brother Carl has planted, I noticed at Lowe’s the bees were
flocking to them. Anything that attracts pollinators in my garden is good!
When I got home, I changed into shorts and a t-shirt. I went
out back and got my wheelbarrow and a shovel. I took it up front and mixed up
my magic planting dirt. I put some in a Home Depot orange five-gallon pail.
Then I divided some of the yellow iris. I put the ones I dug
out in the bucket, added more dirt and then lightly dampened it. The bucket
went in the back of the truck to take to work. I was going to just run then
over and plant them for Evy (Vicky’s mom) on Sunday, but as you know, I ran
into some problems on my project.
I filled in the holes I made with magic dirt and covered
that back up with mulch. I planted the sedum as well, digging the hole twice as
big as the pot. That got filled in with my dirt as well.
Since I had the watering bucket out for planting, I watered every
rose, the iris I mutilated and some other little bushes that struggled to stay
alive, but didn’t bloom this year.
Then I watered the hanging plants. I took the wheelbarrow
and shovel out back to the shed and buttoned everything u for the night.
Back inside, it was almost 7:30 p.m. I washed up after
throwing my sweat-drenched clothes in the basket. I warmed up a bowl of goulash
for supper. I watched a one hour show about ancient sacred places in Ireland an
then went to bed.
Don't buy any more Autumn Joy...you can have all you want. I also have a lot of Daisy's (white), and any kind of Hosta you want. Just let me know.
ReplyDeleteNow you tell me! I might take you up on the daisies, unless you have hostas I don't. Thanks!
