I woke up to the alarm again this morning. Unlike when I worked, I don't get weekends off with the infusion. I ate some oatmeal for breakfast with a cup of coffee and my pills. Then I shaved, showered and got dressed. I left for the doctor's office at 8:40 a.m.
It was still snowing. If it wasn't for the four wheel drive high, I would have been stuck just pulling out of my driveway! There were occasional patches of pavement, but by and large the roads were still snow covered and slippery.
I tried to look on the bright side. At least I wasn't seeing all those potholes. The snow made them all disappear!!!
I got to the doctor's. This was my first weekend visit, so I waited a while for the receptionist. Then I realized there was a sign-in sheet and the door was propped open. So, I signed in and walked in.
An hour and a half later, I was back on the road, headed home and hungry again. This time I stopped at Leda's Coney Island and got my favorite breakfast: Home made hash ("Would you like some green peppers and onions with that?" "Yes, please.") topped with two over-easy eggs. I broke my own rules and ordered a cup of coffee, too. I was cold.
Sidebar: The runny egg yolks make a perfect "sauce" for the hash.
I also stopped to get more gas in the truck. As I have mentioned, running in four wheel drive kills the gas mileage. But, its better than being stuck!
As I pulled onto San Jose, I had a nice surprise. They had plowed the road! But, when I got to the house, I had an unpleasant surprise. I had a foot high berm of plowed snow in front of my driveway.
Sidebar: I did see a neat tip on the Internet (not sure if it works, but I am certainly going to try it). To prevent snow damns at the end
of the driveway - clear 3-10 feet to the left. Makes sense, but seems too easy.
I was changing clothes when my daughter Melissa called. We chatted for a bit and then hung up.
The snow finally seemed to have stopped around 3:00 p.m. So, I got dressed for the outside and went to attack that berm. I want to get it today, before it freezes.
So, here's my problem:
It was about 12 inches tall and three feet wide. I had to take off half, then go back and do the rest, about a foot at a time.
Then I did the driveway. But the wind blew most of the snow back on the driveway, so I had to do it twice!!!
I finally finished. Between snow and sweat, I was soaked. I came in and hung up my wet hat, gloves, coat, long johns and jeans for tomorrow's snow event.
Sidebar: We have yet another Winter Weather Advisory from 4:00 a.m. Sunday to 4:00 p.m Sunday with a prediction of another 2-4 inches.
I had a cup of coffee and some cheese and crackers as a snack.
My arms hurt and my legs hurt. So, I took a nap.
I started warming up the pulled pork (sorry, Carl) around 8:00 p.m. for my late dinner I ate two more of them.
Now that the opening ceremonies are over, I watched the Olympics until 11:00 p.m. and then went to bed.
