So give me your feedback on this new site!
Hey, I think its warming up! We got to 14 degrees F today! Tuesday night was boring! Ate leftover meatballs and spaghetti I'd thawed. Watched TV. Deliberately didn't work on pipe (need to take a break for some inspiration). And, I went to bed early...
Boring...
Yes, the site lin ooks poor in IE6. I was going to mention that. Unfortunately, upgrading is not an issue. We'll just grin and bear it.
ReplyDeleteIn the Blackberry browser, the top nagivation bar gets ran together. It reads like "About MeCaptain's BlogPhotographs PoetryRecipesSongs".
Other than that, a good step forward.

PS: the captchas are working now, too!
Well, I had developed two potential fixes for the IE6 issues. One option was to use a lot more JavaScript and other to modify the CSS for IE6 users. I decided against both methods as it was not worth the time to patch an outdated, non-standards compliant browser. Luckily the site stats show that less that 5% of users are still using IE6.
ReplyDeleteWhy the upgrade aversion? If it's a side effect of old hardware you might check out Opera, which runs pretty well on older equipment.

From a corporate perspective, the upgrade aversion comes from the fact that many application vendors have tuned their pages for the "non-standards compliant browser." Moving to IE7 is a breaking change at this point. I expect this will change in 2007 Q4 or the beginning of next year.
ReplyDeleteFrom a home perspective, IE7 will not run on my legacy home computer. (Honestly, I keep it because I like antiques.) Poor Jyl!
I am not surprised that the stats are around 5%. Of the twenty or so hardcore Captain fans, Jyl and are I but two.
