Tuesday was a trial...

hahaha, get it?

Sorry! :o(

Anyway, second day of jury duty. This is very, very frustrating! We were told we would be starting the trial "promptly" at 9:00 AM, so most of us gt there at 8:00 and sat in the overheated hallway, waiting to be called in. We did get called in, but it was 9:30! Then, we sat through about an hour of jury instructions. Finally (finally!) after opening statements, the prosecutor called his first witness. About three questions were asked and answered when the prosecutor asked about the police report. The defense objected, saying he hadn't seen that document. We were immediately hustled into the jury room while they debated.

The jury room? A cramped, but high ceiling room. It has a lot of old magazines to read (newest on was 2003) some cards, a box with a 500 piece puzzle, two coffee makers (but no cups), bathrooms, (thank God!) and a drinking fountain.

Jurors? 5 men (including me)and nine women (one very attractive young woman, two very attractive older women and, best of all, one midget). Okay, I'm not sure what's politically correct (little person?) but she is very attractive and fascinating to me.

Anyway, we were in that room for over an hour (I read and/or flirted with a married midget, several people started working on the puzzle, many read old magazines and one lady played solitaire). We finally got called back in and were told there were some administrative problems with documents and witnesses, so court was adjourned for the day, and we would resume tomorrow. Because of the anticipated snow, Court will resume at 11:00 AM. (groan)

So, drove back home, sent an email to my boss, saying I wouldn't be in on Wednesday and started tidying up. The storm was supposed to hit at 2:00 PM, with heavy snow and blowing and drifting. So, my friend B___ said he was bringing a change of clothes in case he had to stay at my place for the night.

However, the forecast had changed and its not supposed to start snowing until 5:00 PM, so B___ went home (figuring, I presume, if you have to be snowed in, its better at home!) Me? I was exhausted and took an nap.

I was gonna make Linguine with clam sauce for me and B___, but decided it was a vegetarian night, instead. So, I ate leftover cauliflower and sauteed the 4 summer squash I bought last Saturday. I used my mandoline to cut the squash and, even though I threw away about an inch of the stem, I did manage to cut the tip of one of my fingers!

Watched the TV shows until 11:30 PM, then went to sleep.

    Q: What is a midget?

A: In some circles, a midget is the term used for a proportionate dwarf. However, the term has fallen into disfavor and is considered offensive by most people of short stature. The term dates back to 1865, the height of the "freak show" era, and was generally applied only to short-statured persons who were displayed for public amusement, which is why it is considered so unacceptable today.

Such terms as dwarf, little person, LP, and person of short stature are all acceptable, but most people would rather be referred to by their name than by a label.

  2. Sorry if I can across as insensitive, but I was not sure (and still am not sure) if I said LP or little person that most people would understand what I meant. And, I'm not sure why, but to me, dwarf sounds more offensive than midget.

I apologize if I offended anyone, especially if they are a little person.

  3. Hey! Give us some credit - we're down with the Roloff's[1]. We know what you mean when you say little person.
