When I talked with my Mom on Thursday, she mentioned that Lee Ann and Dan's youngest, Josh (4 1/2 years old) had just got out of Children's Hospital. This would be my brother Carl's grandson.
I emailed Carl for particulars and he said they originally thought he has cystic fibrous (usually fatal by age 18), but good news is it's NOT.
The final diagnosis was "Immotile Cilia syndrome" (no, I never heard of it either). Seems the Cilia in the lungs cannot remove the fluids or mucus and he will be prone to lung infections and pneumonia for the rest of his life. There is no cure, just control. Treatment is medication, inhalers and seeing a specialist from now on.
