I woke up at 4:00 AM with my knees and upper thighs screaming in pain. Kneeling on that wood floor yesterday was sooo stupid. Dammit! I know better (because my doctor told me NEVER kneel) Oh, well, you live and learn and this particular lesson was painful (and one I won't soon forget!)
Hot today (high of 88 degrees F.) and, when mixed with high humidity, it was downright brutal. But, when I got home and changed, I made myself go out (out of the lovely air conditioning) and polyurethane the last pieces I needed to finish the hallway. I am hoping they will be dry enough to the touch that I can install them tonight.
Went back inside (ah!) and I decided to install the "silent furniture glides" I'd bought at Lowes, at lunch. Even though my table and chairs were (at least in my mind) expensive, the wood chair legs ended in, well, wood. And, after seeing what my old wood chairs did to the self-stick tile floor (which, I no longer have the time, money or energy to replace this year), I thought I'd better protect it. So, I bought six sets of these hard nylon (or plastic something) glides with a nail attached. I am drilling a pilot hole two sizes smaller first, as the last thing I want to do is split the chair legs. Then I am pounding them in with a rubber hammer. Seems to work great, but only time will tell.
So, at 7:00 PM, I went out to check on the polyurethaned molding. No way is this gonna happen tonight as they are sticky as hell to the touch. Gave up and decided it would be an early night, tonight. Warmed up two ears of sweet corn and a hamburger for dinner and went to see if there's anything on TV.

ReplyDeleteProbably the aforementioned humidity. Too bad polyurethane stinks or you could do it inside.
Yes, the smell is why I am trying to do it all outside and in the garage. Neither Scruffy nor myself are fond of polyurethane fumes.
