The relentless heat, the lack of rain and the lack of my attention this past month have all taken their toll on my gardens. In spite of me applying fresh mulch this spring, almost all of them have weeds or grass in them. In the past years, I had a habit of almost unconsciously weeding them as I spent time outside. However, this year, I've been stuck in the house.
As far as the herbs go, the dill completely died, the basil (which last year was maybe two feet high) is only about 8 inches and already trying to bloom (its as though the plants are saying, "We aren't gonna make it! We better procreate before we die!" Although, I'm guessing plants don't use big words like "procreate." They probably just use the "F" word.)
As I have noted before, the original hanging baskets all died out except for the asparagus ferns (which I still need to replant). And, I can't get the damn white price stickers off the new green pots! Why in God's name didn't they put them on the bottom?
The best garden of all is the one in the back, but don't forget, the mulch back there is probably 8-10 inches thick.
I am making a public vow today, right now, to get my gardens back into shape!
John, Don't feel bad, my hanging plants look terrible as well. And yes, I did water them faithfully. I can't even keep my pansy's alive. SO, today I will replant with more hardy species.
ReplyDeleteAs far as your kitchen work....congratulations the end is in site and it does look great. A little bright, but love the moldings on the doors. It really dresses them up!!!!!!
Good luck with your garden . . the anonymous coward, Amer
ReplyDeleteAn easy trick for getting those white price stickers off your pots - rub ordinary hand cream generously into the sticker, past the edges, let it sit awhile and then using your fingernail, the tag and the sticky stuff should roll right off.
ReplyDeleteAmer,
ReplyDeleteAgain, my problem is with the camera and the flash. Like it makes my wine-colored walls in the living room look pink, it makes the kitchen cupboards look a lot more yellow that they really do. They are really more golden than bright yellow.
Dear Canadian,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip. Now if I can just find some hand cream in this bastion of male-ness, I'll try it!
