Finally, the heat has broken. It was an absolutely perfect day with the highs in the 70's and low humidity. Now, if only the drought would break! At lunch, B___ and I stopped at Lowes after eating and I picked up (hopefully) everything I need for the sink and another light switch for the front entry.
When I got home, I put in the new switch first and it's working perfectly (I suppose I should try and figure out why this works and the other one didn't , but I don't care right now - I'm busy). I watered all the container gardens next (since the kitchen sink will be out of commission for a few days).
Then, onto the sink. I lucked out, in that my garbage disposal is a name brand and on their website is complete instructions (including pictures) for removal. In about 20 minutes I had it out. Next, I took out the drains and unhooked the waterlines.
One of the things (well, actually two) I bought today was extensions (one rigid, one flexible) so I can use the drill to unscrew all the little clips that hold the sink in. So, I tried the rigid one first and it worked great. Only problem is its too dark to see the little slots. I removed the sink front and that helped a little, but I really need a light (and that work light would be too damn hot in this little space - I'd melt me!) Stopped at that point since it was already 7:30 PM and I need to water the front gardens.
Gave everything a big drink of water, put away the hose and then came inside at 8:45. Warmed up a couple burgers for dinner and went to watch TV. But, no TV picture!?! Messed around making sure the connections were tight (they were, but the cable people always ask you that first when you call). Checked that my internet and phone were working (they were) so the line into the house is okay. Now my food's getting cold, so I said "Screw it!" (yes I actually said, "Screw it!") got my book and read until bedtime.
I thought you were just replacing the faucet. Did I miss something?
ReplyDeleteMaybe you did. I actually bent the faucet wrench trying to loosen the old nuts (and they never came loose). Under the sink is too crowded for using anything else (say, channel locks) so the only way to do it is to remove the whole sink, take off the old faucet put in the new one with waterlines attached and put the sink back in.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that Mister Anonymous asked. I have been scratching my head for a while, wondering what you were up to.
ReplyDeleteI went back and looked at Sunday's post (which is when I decided I'd have to take out the sink to replace the faucet) and you are both right. I never came out and said what my decision was, just that I was thinking of cutting it off with the Sawzall, and knew that would be a bad idea. Sorry!
