Thursday's Tale

I woke up this morning to a light snow. It's supposed to be above freezing today, so it won't last but, not having to drive in it to work, its pretty to watch.

Still no word from Luanne or Sadie, so can only assume they spent the night in the hospital. Sure enough, I missed a call from them while I was in the shower and yes, Lu stayed in the room on a chair, dozing, and Sadie found a couch in a waiting room to sleep a little on. Seems her Mother is improving somewhat, so that's good. I'll have to wait until I see them for a full report.

Snow did stop and then start melting around 11:00 AM. I did go to lunch with B___ again and found I'd missed some big excitement at work. Yesterday afternoon, a truck hit a guy wire behind Building 7 and snapped a telephone pole in half, smashing three transformers (Jake, who is in a building across the street and down a bit, said it sounded like a bomb went off). This took out power to some of the buildings, but Building 7 was still out today.

Got home and took a nap. Lu called at around 3:30 PM and said they are finally on their way here. I have to leave at 4:45 PM to give Jake a ride home (Carla has a late meeting), but they should be here by them (rush hour traffic not withstanding).

They arrived at 4:40 PM, just as I was leaving. I took Jake home and drove back home after a quick stop at the grocery store. I got back around 6:00 PM. They were settling in, so we visited a while, then exchanged presents. I got two pairs of slipper socks (badly needed), a roasting rack for Cornish game hens or ribs, and three stainless steel pans specifically designed for mise en plaz.

The question of dinner came up. After much discussion, we decided on the last of Jake's Potato and Lee soup and a salad with crackers. Unlike the soups I drop off at my Mom's, this time I got instant feedback: They loved it! Lu caught the smoky background taste and they were both impressed by the smooth, silkiness of the soup. I explained it was the immersion blender, probably.

A little more visiting and they went to bed (understandable, after being at the hospital 21 hours) at 9:30 PM. I read my book until 11:00, then called it a night myself.
