Well, we got dumped on again with snow. The National Weather Service posted a Snow Advisory first, then that was upgraded to a Heavy Snow Warning. And, even though there was light snow off and on that started around midnight, it started snowing hard around 4:00 PM, just before rush hour.
I did get on the expressway to go home, figuring they would be the first to be plowed and salted. Nope, Nothing! I saw two cars off on the side of the road and two more near-miss accidents and decided this was nuts! I got off at Farmington Road (about two miles after I got one and three miles short of my real exit. I just crawled along the surface streets at a maximum speed of maybe 20 MPH, sat through each light two and three times and eventually got home at 5:35 PM.
My back is still killing me, BTW. I keep hoping it will improve and fear it will get worse.
I putzed around a bit and then read my book with a pound of shrimp thawed. I debated whether I should make Linguine with Clam Sauce (White) or Shrimp Scampi over Linguine. I'm missing ingredients for both (anchovies for the Linguine with Clam Sauce and a fresh lemon for the Shrimp Scampi. But, I do have one of those squeeze bottles of lemon juice for emergency, so I decided to go with the Scampi (its hard to fake an anchovy).
I dug out my recipe and saw that was one of the ones Carla, Jake and I had played with back in the day, as changed amounts and ingredients were written in by hand. So, other than the fresh squeezed lemon juice (which I could substitute) and the lemon zest (out of luck, there) I made it the way we had decided it tasted best. And, you know what? We were right!
Damn, that was good!!! I ate way too much. I cleaned up the kitchen and looked for my book again. I never watched any TV and ended up finally falling asleep after 11:00 PM.
Sounds like another lonely night... all alone... with nobody else around... just you. Alone.
ReplyDelete@ Anon: You are very insightful..
ReplyDeleteHey, I remember that recipe. I seem to recall that it made way more food than one person could eat.
ReplyDeleteWhy, I oughta...
ReplyDeleteI mean, yes, it does make a lot. However, there are not as many leftovers in the fridge as you might think. I probably ate twice as much as I should!
