A woman in one (actually, I think she's in two) of the poetry groups I belong to wrote the following poem. I don't know much about her (none of us "know" each other, really) although I do know she lives in Texas and has five kids and at least one horse. When I read this, I thought it was a very powerful piece of work, so I emailed and asked her permission to post it here. She agreed.
I think this may be the saddest poem I ever read...
I remember; ba, Mama,
Bite Mommy,
Hold me Mommy,
Mommy help me tie my shoes.
I remember; Mama tie this bow,
Mom, I'm starved!
Where's my socks, Mother?
Mother, would you help me on my homework?
Yes I remember all this.....
Mom, can you come over and help with the baby?
Mother, I'm hurting, hold me again, make it all better,
Even though, not a word was ever said.
Now I stand here alone, pleading with sorrow filled eyes,
Help me please?
All I hear is
............ ......... ...silence
Yes I remember, unbelievably, all of you don't.
